Hi! My name is Jonathan. I’m a third-year medical student at UCLA. Before medical school, I spent nearly two decades living in Haiti and Sierra Leone as a global health leader with Partners In Health, working to rebuild health systems during major emergencies. Hi! My name is Jonathan. I’m a third-year medical student at UCLA. Before medical school, I spent nearly two decades living in Haiti and Sierra Leone as a global health leader with Partners In Health, working to rebuild health systems during major emergencies. I earned my BA in International Affairs and African Studies from George Washington University. One of the most meaningful parts of my work was mentoring staff and students eager to build careers in global health and medicine.

I also love writing and storytelling and have crafted op-eds, blog pieces, podcasts, and speeches. I find the process of shaping ideas and structuring stories in compelling ways deeply rewarding. Now, as a medical student, I continue that passion by supporting future applicants as they navigate their own paths. I’ve worked with students at every level: tutoring elementary students in college, teaching high school classes as a Peace Corps volunteer, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in global health and public service. I’ve also served as a mentor with the Obama Scholars Program at the University of Chicago and created a photography course for Ebola survivors in Sierra Leone.

I love helping students think through their stories, identify which experiences will resonate most with admissions committees, and present them clearly and with impact. Together, we’ll clarify your goals and develop a strong structure for essays that communicate your ambitions and passion with purpose.

I also work with students on interview preparation. Having interviewed hundreds of candidates professionally, I understand how intimidating the process can feel. Simulating authentic interviews builds confidence through realistic, judgment-free practice. In these sessions, we’ll highlight your strengths, address areas for growth, and help you approach your interviews with ease and confidence. Storytelling, communication, and writing skills can all be strengthened through mentorship and practice. I’m excited to meet you!

Interview Prep

Interview Prep

In my global health career, I developed interview questions and interviewed hundreds of applicants for a wide range of roles, from senior leadership to entry-level positions. As a medical school applicant, I also interviewed at several top twenty institutions, gaining firsthand insight into the admissions process, and an understanding of the types of questions different interviewers might ask. Together, we’ll simulate an authentic interview experience and focus on constructive, actionable feedback. Whether you’re preparing for a school admissions interview or a professional role, my goal is to help you gain confidence, communicate with clarity, and approach your interview with ease. We’ll work together to highlight the most compelling aspects of your story and experience. I am looking forward to working with you!
MCAT

MCAT

I took the MCAT exam in the summer of 2022 after completing my postbaccalaureate premedical course work in 11 months. I interviewed at 6 schools including, Harvard, UCLA, Yale, Dartmouth, Einstein, and SUNY Downstate. I have learned a lot about test taking strategies and am happy to help coach students in how best to organize themselves to study efficiently and effectively.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

As a third-year, non-traditional medical student, I’ve written personal statements for undergraduate, postbaccalaureate, and medical school programs. I understand how competitive admissions can be, and how powerful a compelling, authentic, story-driven essay is in helping an applicant stand out. Your personal statement is your chance to bring your application to life and showcase the qualities that grades and test scores can’t capture. It’s where applicants whose academic record may not fully reflect their potential can demonstrate what makes them a strong fit for a program, and how they’ll contribute to its community and thrive within it. It’s also where academically accomplished students can reveal the depth of their curiosity and the broader ways they engage with the world beyond the classroom. I’ll work with you to identify the most compelling aspects of your experiences and shape them into a cohesive, memorable narrative that resonates with admissions committees. My goal is to help you present your background in a genuinely exciting way. I look forward to working with you!
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

In my work as a global health leader, I have given presentations to staff, government officials, and donors. As well, I have experience being interviewed on the radio, have hosted my own podcast, and have been interviewed for television segments. I have also given speeches at conferences and special events with senior government and civil society leaders.

Very knowledgeable, passionate, and friendly Teacher

I am a high school senior and I was looking for someone to help me with revising my personal statement. He spent over an hour of his own time reading it and going through to make sure it was as good as possible. I am very happy with the help he gave me because I could tell that he genuinely cared and that he is a very good writer. He explained all of his revisions and guided me so I could add details myself. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a passionate teacher who is good at explaining things and who is also very knowledgeable.
