Hey, my name is Alex, a 3rd year at UCLA studying Physiological Sciences with the hopes of becoming a physician. My background as a former EMT and student-athlete helps me bring a great set of communication skills, as well as a positive and supportive attitude towards education. Furthermore, I have 2 years of one-on-one tutoring experience and am an expert in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Algebra, Precalculus, and Calculus. As a summa cum laude graduate from high school and an honors student at UCLA that has scored highly in every STEM class at the college level, I am qualified to help with homework assignments, test preparation, concept clarification, and teaching new concepts in all of these classes. I typically interact with students taking high school and college-level math and science courses. My background as a top-percentile student and years of experience as a tutor have equipped me with the tools necessary to effectively help students reach their potentials.
During sessions, I focus on improving understanding by creating a supportive environment that encourages students to ask questions and develop confidence. When students believe in their abilities to grasp concepts, they are able to take control of their own learning by gaining the resilience to improve their grades or scores. In order to cultivate that confidence, I use positivity to encourage students to tackle their subject material, even if it means making mistakes. The best way to learn is to make mistakes and then learn from those mistakes, which can be achieved by repetition and clear instruction. Furthermore, sometimes all a student needs is a different explanation of a concept to supplement what is learned in school, and I am happy to provide that as well. My strategies are greatly beneficial because they help students reach long-term understanding of concepts instead of a surface-level understanding to complete an individual assignment.
Please reach out with any questions or scheduling inquiries, I look forward to meeting new students!
