Hello! My name is Madison, and I am a fourth-year student at UCLA, majoring in Political Science and Music. I conducted research about the intersection of music and political science at the University of Cambridge and currently contribute to UCLA's Undergraduate Music Journal. Maintaining a GPA of 3.9 or above, I have consistently earned a place on the Dean's Honor List for the past three years. While in high school, I was awarded the AP Scholar with Honor distinction from the College Board and was a member of the National Honors Society. While being a member of the National Honors Society, I engaged in a range of volunteer tutoring experiences across different age groups and subjects. Specifically, I have a history of tutoring students at the high school, middle school, and elementary school levels, focusing on subjects such as math, reading, history, and music theory. In total, I have accumulated over four years of tutoring experience.

In tutoring, I aim to create a supportive and empowering environment for students, fostering a comfortable space for questions and facilitating a comprehensive understanding of the material. I customize teaching methods to individual needs, ensuring accessibility. For younger students, I integrate interactive "games" to make learning enjoyable and reinforce concepts. Following these activities, I often find that the main concepts become ingrained, enabling me to formulate a specialized lesson plan that further solidifies their understanding. When working with older students, I identify objectives upfront, tailoring lesson plans to address specific challenges. Throughout the tutoring process, I consistently monitor their progress and am proactive in updating the lesson plan or objectives to ensure ongoing achievement and success. However, I am always open to adapting my lesson plans and teaching style to best accommodate any student. Please feel free to contact me with any questions!

General Music

As part of my education at UCLA, I have completed a range of courses in research, composition, theory, and music history. I conducted research alongside an ethnomusicologist now based at Oxford University and have been honored with the Dean’s Honor Award every year. Additionally, I am a staff member for UCLA’s Musicology journal, which has further enriched my comprehensive understanding of general music.
