Bio

I am Lorenzo! I am a researcher at UCLA with two Masters Degrees in Physics (GPA 4.00, graduated with honors) and a PhD in Chemistry (GPA 4.0). I have successfully tutored tens of High School students in Math and Physics over the years and helped them pass their remedial exams. Later, I also tutored College Students in Math, Physics and Chemistry. In graduate school, I have been a Teaching Assistant for Physics and Chemistry undergraduate and graduate level classes.

I appreciate each student has their own weaknesses and strengths, and I strive to use to the students' advantage to better tailor our discussions and the type of assignments we will be working together. I encourage students to learn big picture notions and their connections: while formulas will always come and go, concepts will then stick. When learning Physics or Maths, being able to apply the notions to solving assignments is crucial to master the subject, so solving selected problems is an essential part of my tutoring strategy.

I go into this by being aware that being tutored is a time and money commitment from the students' side, so I will respect that and honor it professionally. I always try to provide a quick turn-arounds and quick replies, and share notes or materials that I think could be beneficial to students. Also, I welcome feedback from students and parents, and I am happy to adapt tutoring strategy accordingly.

Finally, saw first-hand how teachers who are enthusiastic about their subject motivate students. I had always wanted to go into the Liberal Arts until I crossed paths with two amazing teachers in High School, and I realized that math was exciting after all. I would be thrilled if I could give back and inspire students myself. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or schedule a lesson, can't wait to start working with you!

Calculus

Calculus

I have a very solid background in Calculus, as I took it extensively in college/grad school and I use it daily in my job at UCLA. I have confidently been tutoring all AP Calculus units (including AB and BC), and Calculus 1, 2 and 3. I can discuss both theory and applications of single variable and multi-variable calculus, real and complex variable Calculus, and how those impact real-life problem. I like putting everything into context, and especially relating math with physics.
Physics

Physics

I have a very solid knowledge in Classical Mechanics (equation of motions, statics, dynamics, conservation of energy), Thermodynamics and Statistical Mechanics, Electromagnetism and Quantum Mechanics (both intro and advanced level). I like applying physical principles to real world problems and highlighting at every step why something is legit or not. I am a big fan of showing alternative approaches to solve a problem, so to better put things into context.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

Trigonometric direct and inverse functions, trigonometric equations and inequalities, trigonometric identities, geometry problems solved by trigonometric approaches

Knowledgeable tutor!

Lorenzo is an knowledgeable tutor. He helped me with my thermodynamics course. This class covered math, physics, and chemistry concepts, which made it very difficult. Lorenzo prepared before each lesson and patiently taught me everything I needed to know. He is an amazing tutor

Very Thorough Tutor

Lorenzo has done a great job of guiding me through questions in depth and making sure I understand each part of the problem. Sometimes I have attempted a problem beforehand, but missed one part so he really helps me catch those mistakes. He is also very good at connecting the dots, but he doesn't always do it for me. He does let me say what I think I should do next and he will tell me whether I am on the right track or not. If not, then he clearly connects the concepts and formulas so that I understand it, even if it takes more than one try.

Knowledgeable Tutor

Lorenzo clarified the process for calculus equations. We cooperatively worked through examples and he checked for understanding so I could prepare for my exam. Extremely knowledgeable, patient, and cooperative tutor!
