I have a B.A. in Film Studies from Yale University, where I graduated cum laude with distinction and won the Yale Film Prize. I received both a Master's in Communication and a Master's of Fine Arts in Film/Video Production from the University of Iowa, where I was an Iowa Fellow. I was a Fulbright Fellow in Paris, France, and I am fluent in French. I taught film production for six years as an Assistant Professor on the tenure track at the University of Colorado, Boulder, then taught film production and film studies at Vassar College for 3 years, where I was awarded tenure.
My nine years of teaching at the undergraduate level and serving on multiple departmental and college-wide committees gives me a valuable perspective on academic standards and expectations. I use this experience to guide my students to write thought-provoking, college-level essays and to demonstrative innovative, analytical thinking.
I am currently a writer/director/producer based in Los Angeles with several award-winning documentaries to my name. The in-depth research, writing, and editing involved in documentary production correlates directly with the scholarly writing process. I therefore apply all my experience as both an educator and filmmaker to my pedagogy.
