Hello!

My name is Nikke Stevenson. I'm all about helping kids learn and reach their full potential! I've spent the last two decades honing my skills as a literacy professional, working primarily with students that struggle with language processing, reading, and comprehension. I was employed by Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes from 2001-2024, where I became an expert in the science of reading, and in particular, the LMB processes. Currently, I work part-time as the Reading Specialist at Canyon Charter Elementary School in Santa Monica, CA., in addition to private tutoring.

I have a BA in Theatre from the University of California, San Diego, and often use play and creativity to reach many students who have had years of failure in reading, and have since lost (or never found) the joy in learning. I am energetic, patient, and encouraging when working with students. I am also highly intuitive and can adapt to different personalities and temperaments, as well as differentiate lesson plans based on individual needs. My lessons are dynamic and fun, yet structured and repetitive to allow for concretizing of concepts that lead to mastery and independence.

I love working with kids in grades K-5, but my experience lends itself to also helping older students, and even adults. I have done work in small groups and classrooms, but I really love 1:1 work, either in person or online. I have privately tutored for the last 5 years and have also been a part of volunteer organizations such as BookPALS (Performing Artists for Literacy in Schools ) through the Screen Actors Guild, of which I am an active member. In addition, I have worked with the Art of Elysium, volunteering for bedside reading and games for kids in rehabilitation facilities and hospitals.
