I became a teacher because I loved writing and reading, and I knew first-hand the power of both to change a student's life. I was licensed in the State of Minnesota and taught in varying capacities for nine years, teaching at suburban Minnesota schools. In additional to writing essays, I taught Creative Writing courses.
Additionally, for two summers, I worked evaluating a variety of standardized tests for schools in states such as Kentucky, Tennessee, and South Carolina, which helped me gain a well-rounded perspective of the standardized-test scoring process. For several years, I used that information to provide detailed feedback for one school district in Minnesota whose teachers hired me to evaluate student work in preparation for Minnesota's standardized tests.
From an early age, I had a passion for reading and writing. I excelled in writing from an early age and took pleasure in writing stories, plays, and essays. When I took the GRE, I scored in the 96th percentile for analytical writing.
