I’m Elika! I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Southern California in May 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience and a minor in forensics and criminality. Since graduation, I have been working as an emergency department medical scribe and applying to medical school, which I will be attending in the fall of 2023. I’ve been privately tutoring for nearly seven years in major STEM courses and have found that the most effective instructors are those that help students enhance their learning methods and support them in becoming stronger students rather than purely teaching a subject. This is the approach I like to bring to my tutoring.

I aim to make the learning experience engaging while also assisting students in developing learning/studying techniques so that they become self-sufficient in their studies. From my neuroscience coursework, I have learned and practiced research-proven techniques best for long-term memorization and understanding of concepts, such as active recall and interactive flashcards. Furthermore, I tailor my tutoring approach to the subject and needs of each student.

I have scored competitively on major STEM courses throughout high school and university, including 5s on AP Calculus AB and BC, 5s on AP Chemistry, and 97th percentile on the SAT and ACT. I have independently tutored and taught at after-school programs for 8th to 12th-grade students in various courses and exams, including AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Physics, AP Psychology, SAT, and ACT. I have also worked with undergraduates in courses including general chemistry, general biology, introductory math, psychology, sociology, and some MCAT subjects. My students have, on average, improved by one-letter grade in a class or one point on AP exams with my support.

I’m constantly striving to be as helpful to students as possible; thus, I appreciate any feedback or suggestions to adjust my approach.
