As a child my favorite TV programs were NOVA and National Geographic. In my academic career I had many interests, but science called me most strongly. I graduated from CSU Chico in 2016 with a Biochemistry B.S., intending on medical school. A competitive swimmer from the age of 8, I worked as a lifeguard and swim instructor throughout college to pay for my tutoring and med school applications. I took the MCAT and scored a 512. However, as I wrote my personal statements, I realized that my passion was not medicine, but rather problem solving. I’d had an amazing MCAT tutor who taught me how to study, manage my time, and project plan for the first time in my life. I carried these skills with me as I ventured to find the right career for me.
Soon after, I became a K-12 tutor at AJ Tutoring. There I honed my teaching skills and after 1 year was recognized for having the second highest number of tutoring hours logged in a semester. During the COVID pandemic I left AJ Tutoring and continued tutoring privately part time, but also began my career in gene therapy. Throughout my 5-year full-time career as a molecular biologist, I have maintained my own private part-time tutoring business, which I now consider my passion. Even while proudly working on the frontier of gene therapy and specializing in molecular cloning, the most rewarding part of my day is the hours that I spend helping my students realize their potential.
Throughout my academic and professional careers, teaching has been a constant. In college I taught swimming and tutored my neighbor’s children. I also tutored my peers in physics for two years as a member and president of the Society of Physics Students at Chico State. I tutored professionally for three years at AJ Tutoring, and have tutored privately for five years. Altogether, I have 11 years of tutoring experience. I specialize in K-8, Study Skills, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Precalculus, Calculus, Biology, and Spanish. I also tutor bilingual Spanish/English K-8 courses.
