Hello! I'm Adrian! I graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a degree in Philosophy and won an Academic Excellence in Philosophy Award my senior year. I have had some essays in ethics published. I discovered my love for teaching and seeing lightbulbs light up in my students head while coaching chess right out of high school. There hardly a greater reward for sharing knowledge! Studying philosophy seriously, I continued to share what I learned to high schoolers by volunteering teaching at my church. I would take the material from my ethics, metaphysics, and philosophy of religion classes and directly imbue them into my lessons. The approach I take in tutoring is the time tested Socratic method. This encourages critical thinking in students and their responses, usually in a conversational manner, are direct evidence that real comprehension is taking place. The pedagogy here resembles more training than tutoring in which I ask you to regurgitate facts.

I have been teaching philosophy at different churches for the last 5 years, with ages ranging from High School Freshmen to Adults in their 50's. Class sizes have ranged from 4 people to a class of 40. On occasion, usually at the request of a parent, I would spend extra time one-on-one with their child who was having difficulty comprehending the material.

As a philosopher, I am trained to keep writing tight and crisp, wasting no words and not allowing for any fluff that would be cause for ambiguity or confusion. Precision is highly valued in my philosophical training, and so clarity of thought will easily be conveyed on essays. Comprehension is also a high priority in philosophy since in presenting a counter-argument, we need to make sure that our criticisms are hitting their targets. So rigorous exegetical work is no stranger to me, and I can help you meet those standards. I have some minor publications which demonstrate this.

I have taught religion at my church for the past 5 years, at different ages and to different class sizes. I hav
