Hi There,
I am an English Literature graduate from California State University, Long Beach, where I made the Dean's List for four consecutive semesters. I have experience working with students from elementary ages up through high school. I am comfortable with and confident in my ability to work with people of various ages. Primarily I am asked to help students work on their reading comprehension and writing skills (i.e. grammar, punctuation, essay structure, critical thinking, etc). When working with students I like to ask questions and guide them to answers and understanding rather than simply talking at students. I find that this helps to include the student in the learning more which ultimately helps him or her internalize concepts better. To me, tutoring is a collaborative effort, and a student who feels comfortable learns easier.
I am also extremely passionate about music, particularly writing music for film and video games. I spent two years studying music theory at Long Beach City College, after which time I transferred to UCLA's Film Scoring Certificate Program where I studied music theory, composition, and production for an additional two years. I graduated from the program in 2014. I have three years of experience with casual tutoring, helping fellow classmates with assignments and with understanding concepts of music theory. I also had the honor of having a previous professor recommend me to his later classes for additional help.
I'm comfortable working with students between grades 7-12 up to undergraduate college students. An important part of tutoring is developing a rapport with students, which I always seek to grow. I always try to understand the individual needs of a student, and work to meet their need based on that. I also try to gear my tutoring to the way that a student best retains knowledge. No two students are the same, so no lesson should be the same either.
If I can be of any help, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me. That's what I'm hear for. Best of luck, and I
