I have taught/tutored for 3 years. I was both a student and graduate assistant at CSULB where I attained a B.S. in Mathematics and a M.S. in Statistics.
I have experience tutoring in all mathematics subjects up to and including graduate-level material. I have a massive amount of experience in tutoring almost all of the subjects that I'm qualified to teach or tutor. Thus, it is very difficult to find another tutor who has as much experience in tutoring algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability, statistics, precalculus, calculus, linear algebra, physics, and chemistry, along with SAT, ACT, ASVAB, GRE, and GMAT test preparation.
Based on my educational level and experience attained from working in industry, you will find that my hourly rate is very affordable compared to many other tutors. Accordingly, I am pleased to mention that last year I was ranked and awarded by WyzAnt to be in the top 50 nationally with respect to the number of hours worked. I am also one of the highest-rated tutors (I am currently ranked 3rd in all of So. California for the subjects that I tutor!).
My most salient skill, however, is presenting the theory and logic used for many proofs and equations in a simpler and easier to visualize alternative format that students can more easily understand. I have taught/tutored for 3 years. I was both a student and graduate assistant at CSULB where I attained a B.S. in Mathematics and a M.S. in Statistics.
I have experience tutoring in all mathematics subjects
In the event that I'm not notified more than 8 hrs. prior to a cancelled lesson, 1.5 hr. of time will be charged to their account to cover displacing other students from that booking, etc.
Serious students, parents, and professors understand the "hit or miss" nature of tutors. I was referred to Glen through a friend who is taking a difficult graduate-level statistics course. She said without a doubt, he is better than any other statistics or math tutor in the area (and this lady is very bright so I trust her advice).
Personally, I'm taking Calculus 2 over this summer and the pace is very fast. We covered 1.5 chapters in 4 days. We started the class with word problems which are difficult, even for the tutors at my college (some tutors won't even attempt certain problems). I was having a very hard time geometrically interpreting what integral calculus is supposed to describe. I was simply trying to plug numbers into formulas and hoping to get the right answer with a very vague understanding of what's actually going on.
It took two hours, and Glen completely changed that. How? He didn't do the problems for me, he showed me how to approach them from a logical standpoint. On top of that, he went backwards and spotted some detrimental reasoning errors from the earlier sections of the chapter that I was incorrectly building a bad foundation upon. Without going into the nitty-gritty details of calculus, anyone who can spot errors in logic/reasoning (as opposed to computational errors) has a rare talent for mathematics.
Hours later that night, I completely finished my entire test review correctly (by myself) without relying on formulas at all. (I hate merely memorizing formulas because it shows a lack of understanding and I knew that prior to Glen and I felt guilty about it.) I now feel confident that I will get an A on this next exam and I truly feel a new sense of empowerment and have a deeper, richer understanding of what I'm learning, as well as a greater appreciation for integral calculus (if you're unfamiliar, that's the more challenging branch of calculus).
If you need a math tutor for any level, don't waste your time elsewhere. I know I won't.
P.S. I emailed him at midnight and he came the very next day!
Matrices, trigonometry, translations. Glen is interested in helping you learn and does his best to see that you do. Glen has helped me accomplish my goal of improving my mathematical foundation.
Glen is tutoring me in a fast-paced business statistics course for graduate school. I am doing what I can to learn on my own, but the course is extremely fast-paced and Glen has helped me understand some of the more difficult concepts. It helps to have him explain in a way that is easier to understand, as the instructor tends to be more complex.
The tutor did not have much conversation with my son. Basically the tutor was available for questions as my son did homework. Also, I expect a high school tutor to be engaging. In addition, I did not find scheduling very easy as it is all done by email. I was asked if I wanted to keep an appt for the following day. I decline because my son did not have new assignments to work on. I was then charged for the appointment anyway. So read the cancellation policy! No second chances here and not easy communication.
Glen made me feel very comfortable and quickly showed me my strengths and weaknesses. He definitely knows his stuff, which is exactly what I need. I wanted someone to tell me how to do math again because it had been a while and that's exactly what Glen did. I felt good after leaving Glen because I knew what I needed to work on. He showed me how to solve problems quickly and effectively.
The steps in solving stats were made easier. I liked the fact that he was very knowledgeable about the contents of my work. I am taking and online class for stats. And he was able to help me put it together.
Glen helped me study for my physics exam and I received an "A" in my finals, thanks to Glen.
He taught me everything I needed to know. Showed me each step of problems I didn't understand and I always felt much much better coming out of the tutoring than coming in. He explained things in the right way so that I totally understood what I was learning.
Another great thing Glenn did was write a detailed review of what we had covered in the lesson and it made me feel prepared, confident and ready for the my next one!!
Glen tutored my stepson a couple of times before finals last and this year. Just one session made him feel more confident to take a test and he actually got a good grade. I definitely ask Glen to help any my kids or recommend him to my friends in the future since I know that he does a great job!!
Thanks for the statistics help, I know I just need a little review but the reassurance was greatly appreciated. Glen is knowledgeable, prepared and patient as well as being able to help with short cuts to understand. Thanks again Glen.
He helped me get through most of my study guide at a good pace for my learning style. We are meeting again to get through the rest of the guide.
I met with Glen today for Statistics tutoring. He arrived on time, was prepared, was patient, and didn't come off as an arrogant "Mr. Know It All". I will definitely spend the extra money for his tutoring services; he is worth it.
Glen is extremely patient and is passionate about mathematics. He showed me multiple ways to solve statistical equations, the shortcuts were invaluable. I highly recommend Glen for statistics.
While Glen seems very knowledgeable in math and very very kind, I am not sure if he was an ideal tutor for me in regards to the GMAT.
Given that he wasn't very familiar with the formatting of the GMAT (i.e. data sufficiency), I am not sure if i would recommend him to the other GMAT students. Glen definitely knows his stuff and would be an excellent tutor for all other math areas!
I had a teacher who didn't explain anything clearly and I was forced to fend for myself in a crucial semester. Glen was the only reason I passed Statistics! Thanks Glen!
Glen has tutored my high school senior in Calculus on several occasions. He is very patient and explains things in ways that make sense to her. He has helped her prepare for two tests, and she has scored higher than ever on both of them.
He was a great tutor. Miscommunicated a couple of times, but that's the only negative. Great detail. Helped a whole lot. Couldn't get much better.
Glen was very patient and made everything so easy to understand. He taught me five weeks of math in under an hour. I left feeling confident that I will pass my test! I really urge people to hire him; not even the tutors at my university could teach me the way he did.
Just had the first session and I am very pleased. Glen was very patient and helpful with my son, a high school junior. My son said he breezed through his physics exam after struggling the week prior. His stress level over physics was essentially eliminated because he understands the reasoning behind the problems.
Glen was great. He gave me some insight into my son's strengths and weaknesses and gave my son confidence in his skills.
Glen and I were able to get a lot of material covered to prepare for the midterm next Friday! Looking forward to our next session as always.
Glen was able to find what exactly my son needed, what his deficiencies were. Very patient. I am sticking with Glen for the duration!
Now, at the end of the term, I am compelled to amend my previous review: Glen did a wonderful job explaining exactly the points my son was missing. Patient, smart and a good communicator. My son aced his Algebra final exam.
Another amendment: after completing a SECOND year of tutoring with Glen, we are still happy with his approach and results. I don't yet know the outcome of the final exam, but Glen sure increased the chances of a much higher grade. He is excellent at breaking down complex geometry concepts. You will not be disappointed! He shows up ready to work and on time.
My son is preparing for a Calculus 3 class this fall by going over the book this summer. He met with Glen last week to preview some of the new material. My son was impressed by Glen's knowledge of the subject and his ability to explain new concepts.
It is clear that Glen has a unique skill to make a complex and sometime dry subject interesting. His positive thoughtful approach combined with a truly mastery of the subject has been a God send. Not only does he knows his calculus forward and backward, but he is able to patiently explained everything very clearly.
Most importantly the results have been outstanding. Our son test score have improved dramatically.
We want to thank Glen for doing such a wonderful job tutoring and coaching our son.
We very much value the fact that Glen spends time with our son, looking for ways to connect with the knowledge base he does have, with the new concepts. He is patient, and always punctual. Thank you Glen!
I contacted Glen via WyzAnt to see if he would assist my son with his college calculus. My son was struggling with the curriculum and was even contemplating changing major as he did not believe he would be able to complete the class. Glen has worked with my son twice a week this semester and has enabled him to comprehend the course material - he is currently holding an “A" average in the class.
My wife and I are very grateful to Glen for all that he has done. Glen is an exceptional tutor – very highly recommend him.
Glen turned out to be a helpful tutor. He has a good grasp of the material and was willing to look at problems from different angles so I could get a better handle on how to solve them on my own. I feel that I will be better able to complete this course now.
Glen was very professional and did a great job! I have used him a few times now. I intend on using him though out my statistics class.
Glen is always on time to our meetings. I like that he comes to my home where I am most comfortable and least distracted versus a noisy Starbucks or having to whisper at the library and hope you get a table! He has high ethics which is important to me and respects his position as a tutor. Glen is knowledgeable in the field of Statistics and is obviously great in mathematics. I like his positive attitude and feedback during our sessions. I recommend giving Glen a try if you need help in any of his areas of expertise.
My extreme compliments to Glen! He helped my daughter pass Multi-Variable Calc III which is one of the hardest math classes out there. Not only did she pass but she averaged an A- on all of her exams. Glen was courteous, prompt, and made sure he covered all the subject material which was discussed in class. I recommend Glen highly!
I'm taking a summer statistics course at CSULB, and I took my first exam two weeks ago. My professor emailed me after my first exam explaining I received one of the three lowest test scores in the class. I worked with Glen two days in a row and took my second exam this week, and I scored a 90%!! He is awesome and very thorough. I'm very thankful I chose him to help me!
Glen helped me prepare for my Calculus 2 final. We went through and reviewed every topic covered in class. Glen was able to answer all of my questions and clear up any misunderstandings I had of the material. We also worked on a few example problems. I ended up doing well on my final. Glen also helped me review for my upcoming Calculus 3 course. Again, Glen explained the material very well and was able to connect it to Calculus material I had previously learned. I look forward to working with Glen again in the future.
I am very bad at math. In high school I had to repeat math courses and when I entered into college it was the same thing. I barely got through math 70 with a C. Lets just say math is not my strength. When they told me I needed stats to transfer I was freaked out. The first month of stats and I had failed 4 exams and had an F. My teacher said there was hope for a B. He said he had never seen someone go from F to A and it was not possible. I couldn't fail math or my CSUF admission was revoked. I then found this website and emailed Glen. He emailed me right away and was very flexible with the times he would meet. My stats teacher taught stats very strange and Glen worked with me, my notes, and book to help me understand better. Just after the first week meeting one day one hour I received a B on my test. He let me switch days and times and always left enough time, at least 2 hours, for my tutor sessions. It didn't stop there next test was a B the next an A. Well I took my final last week got an A and to my surprise passed my stats 190 class with an A. Best tutor ever. I have been to others and have never seen results like this. I was very pleased. He really cares and will always tell you "you got this" "you will pass" "you're doing great" which also makes you build up confidence in math. I would recommend him to anyone who asks and I will definitely use him again if I take another math course.
Glen helped me last minute prepare for a college level statistics final only a couple of days before the test. I had very specific requests on what I needed to know and that I wanted assistance using my TI83+ as much as possible. He completely tailored the session to what I requested. My only regret is not finding Glen sooner! He was very capable and had answers to all my questions while not making me feel bad asking them. Highly recommend Glen!
Glen is someone that you can count on to show up on time, and honor his commitments. He has a very patient manner and does not make me feel bad if I need an extra explanation or coaching. Just in a few hours after we first met I felt more confident about being able to get through this class, and move into the next phase. I would highly recommend Glen to anyone.
Glen truly loves math and communicating that love to his students. He helped my son increase his grade dramatically in trigonometry in 10 weeks, and is now helping him raise his math SAT score. I highly recommend Glen for anyone struggling with any level of high school math.
Glen is an excellent tutor! I was struggling to pass my college level Statistics class at LBCC so I saw an add for WyzAnt and sent Glen an email. He responded very quickly and within a few sessions I felt confident in what I was doing and brought my grade up to a passing grade allowing me to transfer schools this semester. Now, in my upper level psychology classes, Statistics do not scare me and I feel confident in my abilities because of Glen.
Glen is patient but also pushes you to do your best. His knowledge as well as love for math (statistics) really shows making learning enjoyable. He also is very personable and checked in with me after every quiz, test, and project to see how I did and what we need to further go cover. Glen is not only very intelligent but also an excellent communicator of such knowledge. I would highly recommend Glen to anyone in need of saving or bettering their grade.
I recently decided I wanted to join the navy but was denied do to my score. I hired Glen to tutor me in math because that was my weak point, instantly I improved and started to build. He was very patient and knowledgeable. After just 6 weeks of tutoring with him my asvab improved by 30 points!! I recommend any one who wants to improve there asvab score to hire Glen!!
Glen was prompt, patient, and absolutely knew the material. Most importantly, he was able to explain all the concepts in understandable terms. It would have been impossible for me to complete this class without his help. I did meet with a couple of other tutors prior to finding Glen and was just about to drop the class out of frustration. I just can't say enough wonderful things about his abilities to connect with a student and help make sense of the material. I highly recommend Glen.
Glenn lived up to all his previous reviews and exceeded all my expectations!! My daughter left the session feeling confident and prepared for her next test. Glenn was patient and explored teaching methods that complimented my daughters learning style. You won't be disappointed!!
Glen is a very effective tutor who explains the topics thoroughly. We are very pleased and satisfied, according to my daughter their initial meeting brought very good results! Will definitely get hm again in the future.
If tutoring was a military operation Glen would be the leader of a Special Forces unit. Glen was punctual, professional, and is a true subject matter expert.
I knew virtually nothing about statistics prior to completing this past class. Glen was a wonderful tutor. He was extremely patient with me, even when I would ask him to explain the same concept more than once. I truly appreciate all of his help. Without his persistence in getting me to actually learn the concepts of statistics (and not just temporarily memorize them) I would have never past the class. I ended up with an "A" on my final, ultimately receiving an "A" in the class! I am ecstatic!!! I never could have achieved this on my own. Thanks a million Glen.
I was extremely frustrated trying to make sense of my course work when I contacted Glen, and since hiring him I have felt more comfortable tackling my schoolwork. He was very patient and explained things very well so that I understood even when I wasn't comprehending the whole picture from the textbook and the lesson. He spent several hours at a time working through homework with me and now I am almost at the end of the term when I really wanted to quit the course several times. Glen's assistance helped me to persevere. Glen was very flexible with his time and responded to every email I sent. I am in a graduate level applied statistics course and Glen handled all of my material as I expected since his master's degree was in statistics. I would recommend him to anyone and everyone.
Very knowledgeable. Glen knows his math and how to teach it. Will use him in the future for further math studies.
Glen is an excellent tutor. He has a wonderful blend of knowledge, patience and teaching ability. His explanations are complete and presented in such a way so as to not make a person feel inferior. He has a knack for determining what a student's difficulties are and for clearly addressing those issues. I would certainly recommend Glen to anyone who is having problems with Business Calculus.
Glen helped me very much with a last minute tutoring session. I feel it helped me pass a very important exam and Im grateful, thanks again.
I studied with Glen in preparation for a Quantitative Methods exam. It's basically a statistics course very focused on corporate compensation practices. It has been 10 years since I was in school and Stats was never my favorite subject. Glen made the material much more understandable. He was able to explain the same information in multiple ways which helped me understand it. He was easy to schedule and always on time for our sessions. I highly recommend him.
Glen is a very knowledgeable tutor who definitely knows his stuff! He is also very friendly and patient and I would highly recommend him.
Glen is a life saver! I have five weeks to learn Statistics. After I study, watch the lectures and do my homework he helps me go over each problem to have a better understanding and correct my errors. He is patient, reliable and very helpful. Excellent tutor!
My daughter has been using Glen to tutor Physics for the last few times. He is always on time and is very patient with her. One of his strong points is that he explains things clearly and completely; He is an excellent communicator. It is good to know that there are tutors out there who not only understand their subject matter, but are able to communicate their knowledge in clear, concise, and also encouraging manner. Thanks for the support Glen. Great job!
I highly recommend Glen as he was a huge help for my son! He came home for the holidays and was frustrated and Glen was able to explain the problems and go over them with him with no problem! Thank you for you help!
He explained concepts very clearly and in different ways to make sure I understood. He was also very patient. The session was very helpful; I feel a lot more familiar and confident about the material we covered. I will definitely call him again for another session.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The AFOQT test is in many respects very similar to the ASVAB, such as it has math problems involving rates, proportions, and estimations (but at a more difficult level), but it also includes a section of problems for testing the applicant's spatial abilities by testing whether the applicant can determine the proper orientation of an aircraft based solely on instrument information. I have tutored other students on this test and know all of the exercises and tricks that will help you attain a high score on the AFOQT.
I have taken both lower division and upper division classes in differential equations. Differential equations are encountered in many different disciplines, in courses such as business calculus, physics, mechanical engineering, and even in chemistry. Typically a little bit of differential equations is taught in the third calculus class (usually the calculus course which covers multivariable calculus).
The topics covered in the differential equations classes that I completed were as follows:
1) Separation of variables
2) Homogeneous equations
3) Exact equations
4) Linear equations
5) The equations of Bernoulli, Ricatti
7) Picard's method
8) Undetermined coefficients
9) Variation of parameters
10) Second-order differential equations
11) Cauchy-Euler equation
12) Power series solutions
13) Besel's equation
14) Legendre's equation
15) Laplace transform
16) Systems of linear differential equations
17) Numerical methods
18) Fourier series
I have 5+ years of SAS experience. I am familiar with importing and exporting many different forms of data, and also merging data sets. Some of the PROC functions that I've used include the following:
