My name is Zachary Campbell. I am a student at CSULB in my last semester of my English B.A. I have a passion for reading and interpreting works of fiction. I particularly find Modernism and Post-Modernism to be the most fascinating; but, I have taken classes in fiction of all time periods. This includes science fiction from late 1800's English, two different classes exclusively on Shakespeare, and even multiple works from settlers in the Middle age's. I have extensive experience in reading, writing, and editing essays and works of fiction. I have written essays in APA and MLA and can adapt to any other type of essay needed.
My experience in tutoring is wide and inclusive. For two years I worked with elementary students on a wide variety of subjects. This was in a professional capacity at an after school program. I then spent two years working directly with special needs students at multiple high schools. Since then, I have been tutoring multiple non-English major students through their English classes. I have taught them the correct way to write essays, something that I have found has not been taught correctly to a lot of people.
Lastly, my passion for Teaching specifically English is unending. I love hearing different interpretations on the same works that I have read. I decided in the 8th grade that I wanted to teach English; it was later when I specifically choose high school to strive for. There was one decision I made about assessing essays about a year after I started college that not most professors do not agree with. All claims about a piece of work, no matter how outlandish, are valid as long as the writer provides the correct supporting evidence. The writer needs to compel the reader to keep reading, this is easier when they can hook their audience. Essays need to be correctly written grammatically, but the essay should also be entertaining. I love fiction and the English language so much. I love the freedom of ideas that an English class should promote. Thank you for your consideration!
