Hi! My name is Henry, and I recently graduated summa cum laude with a double major in mechanical engineering and computer science from Yale University. I'm now going on to complete a master's degree in aerospace engineering at Stanford, but I'm hoping to spend some time pursuing my love of teaching as well!

In terms of experience, I have been tutoring for over 8 years now, in subjects ranging from 7th grade math to collegiate computer graphics, and I have always loved the experience of sharing my knowledge through education. At Yale, I was also an employed Undergraduate Learning Assistant (ULA) for several semesters, working for a computer science class about data structures (CPSC 223) and a mechanical engineering class about robotic control systems (ENAS 772). I have loved all of these different teaching/tutoring jobs and have found the experience of watching my students learn and grow (sometimes over the course of several years!) very rewarding.

My teaching style generally revolves around helping students understand concepts from first principles. Often, our education system relies on memorizing techniques and strategies to solve problems, which can be helpful in the short-term but lead to issues with understanding. With my students, I try to help them learn from the very beginning, building a strong foundation on which they can continue learning into the future. My tutoring style is also very tailored to each student's individual skills, personality type, and learning goals, with the objective of making tutoring a fun and productive time that my students look forward to every week!

I am generally happy to tutor in a wide range of subjects, so feel free to reach out regardless of what you are hoping to work on with me! This includes AP courses (I took 10+ APs in high school), SAT prep (my score = 1600/1600), GRE prep (my score = 339/340), and many college-level math, computer science, or physics classes. I look forward to hearing from you!

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

In terms of technical experience, I have taken many math classes throughout high school and while completing my mechanical engineering and computer science degrees. Additionally, I have tutored for over 8 years in everything ranging from pre-algebra to advanced computer science classes. One of my longest term students is finishing algebra right now in fact (and is doing quite well)!
C++

C++

I recently graduated from Yale summa cum laude with a degree in computer science. The curriculum there focuses heavily in C++, so I have taken many classes in the language, including classes focused in software design, computer graphics, physics simulation and more. Furthermore, I have worked with C++ both in personal projects and in my work. With this experience, I would be happy to work with new students on anything from basic syntax to advanced algorithms to good code organization when working with this difficult, yet powerful language!
College Counseling

College Counseling

I am a recent Yale grad who is attending Stanford for graduate school. After my own personal success in the college application process (3 Ivy League acceptances and acceptances to other top schools), I have helped others go through the process. I now have significant experience in this work, including helping edit essays, coordinate extracurriculars, and craft a narrative. My background has largely been focused on applicants interested in STEM disciplines, but I am happy to help others as well. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
Computer Science

Computer Science

I completed a B.S. degree in Computer Science at Yale University, taking classes in data structures, computer architecture, computer graphics, and robotic control. Prior to this, I had significant programming experience in high school, taking AP Computer Science, competing in competitive programming in the USACO Gold Division, and completing machine learning research with which I competed at ISEF. Lastly, I have interned as a simulation engineer in industry, gaining experience on larger software projects.
Creative Writing

Creative Writing

I recently graduated summa cum laude from Yale University, and have had success in my writing classes taken at school (receiving an A in each one). I was even recommended to the school's official writing tutoring program. In addition to academic writing and application writing (which can be creative!), I am also a big fan of personal creative writing although I have not published anything (yet). I am happy to work with students on editing already-written pieces, learning the basics of writing craft, or planning out new writing endeavors, so feel free to reach out!
Data Structures

Data Structures

I recently graduated from Yale summa cum laude with a degree in computer science. Several of the courses there focus on data structures, and I even worked as a TA for an introductory data science course for several semesters. This job gave me significant experience working with students through the complexities of different data structures, both in terms of theoretical understanding and syntactical implementation. Being able to effectively use data structures is a vital part of being a successful computer scientists, so feel free to reach out if you are interested in learning more!
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I recently graduated summa cum laude from Yale University, and have had great success with essay writing ranging from applications to class assignments. This includes AP classes (5s in AP Lang, AP Lit, APUSH, AP World History, etc), college application essays (3 ivy league acceptances), and collegiate english classes (As in every writing class I took). One of my recent professors even recommended me to the on-campus writing tutor department, but unfortunately I didn't have time to pursue this opportunity. I love editing and helping people with writing so feel free to reach out!
GRE

GRE

Like many other prospective graduate students, I took the GRE while applying for my master's degree. On the test, I received a 339/340 with a 170 in the math category and a 169 in the verbal category.
Machine Learning/ AI

Machine Learning/ AI

I recently graduated summa cum laude from Yale with a degree in computer science. During high school, I competed in ISEF with a research project in reinforcement learning and in college, I have completed research in robot trajectory optimization. As such, I am very comfortable with ideas around reinforcement learning, neural networks, and current research in the field.
Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

I recently graduated summa cum laude from Yale with a degree in mechanical engineering (and winning one of the senior mechanical engineering prizes). I am now going on to complete a master's degree in aerospace engineering at Stanford. In addition to school, I have worked mechanical engineering internships in several startups and led several different engineering projects in college.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

I recently graduated summa cum laude from Yale University. While applying to college, my personal statements resulted in 3 Ivy League acceptances as well as acceptances to several other prestigious universities. Since then, I have been accepted to graduate school, competitive internships, and several fellowships including the NSF GRFP. I have a number of strategies that I use for writing these personal statements that I would be happy to share!
