Miss Holly has taught me how to put more detail in my writing, and find fun in writing activities. The things I like about Miss Holly's tutoring is that she makes most writing assignments interesting. She also has helped me accomplish new vocabulary, detail in writing, and language arts.
Holly is helping my son organize his thoughts and improve his comprehension of reading materials. She has a great teaching style, makes the student feel comfortable and makes learning fun.
She is a very competent tutor and teacher.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I developed "Film in America" class for 8th graders at an area middle school and taught class for over 5 years. Curriculum included students watching and researching a movie (independently )from selected films from the AFI "Top 100 Movies of all time" and presenting their movie review to the class. The history of American films included units on silent movies, animated movies, famous cinematic actors and classic movies, movie special effects. Class wrote ,rehearsed and filmed an original silent movie each semester.
As a part of 7th grade English, Drama, Film in America and Social Studies classes I taught at an area middle school my students were given many opportunities to develop public speaking skills. These included researching and developing weekly oral current event presentations, book review presentations, oral group research projects, film presentations ,literary presentations, each project emphasizing California Language Arts public speaking standards.
