Hi, I'm Jen! I have graduated from University of the Pacific with a B.A. in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Human Development and a minor in Psychology. In the Fall of 2017, I will complete my multiple subject teaching credential and start coursework towards a Master's degree. I currently reside in San Ramon, but will be taking coursework in Hayward through Cal State East Bay for my credential.

I understand that there are many different learning styles and that every student works differently. Though I do always try to incorporate multiple methods in each lesson (i.e. visual examples, hands-on techniques, verbal and aural cues), I like to focus on what works best for each individual student. I know that it can be frustrating for students when they struggle with a subject or concept, so I do my best to bring the material to life and make the experience enjoyable. Whenever possible, I like to incorporate students' interests into my examples and make connections to the material through those interests.

I have one year of experience tutoring students in Algebra 1 and Pre-algebra. I did mostly one-on-one work after school to help students improve their grades. I also have an additional year of experience tutoring elementary students in math, especially focused on multiplication facts, fractions, and percents, and reading and vocabulary. This work was a combination of one-on-one and small group work in an after school program. We played different math games to help understand important concepts and completed various reading and vocabulary activities that the students really enjoyed.

I have had the amazing opportunity to teach English to children in a small village in China one summer. While there, I did a lot of work with vocabulary. I made flashcards with pictures that related to the vocabulary words, we played games that helped the children understand the vocabulary terms, matching the words to the pictures, and my professor and I even came up with a song that incorporated the vocabulary words, which made
