Biology/AP Bio teacher with 4+ years experience

I am a high school Biology/AP Biology teacher with over 4 years of teaching experience. I got my Bachelor's in Science from UC Merced and just finished my Master's of Science in Biology through Mississippi State University. I use hands-on and story-based teaching which provides patterns for students to remember and connect to their real lives. I believe in using everyday phenomena to teach biological concepts as this often helps students connect the material to what they observe in the world around them. This includes finding current scientific phenomena and connecting this to the biology standards. I have taught biology for over 4 years and worked with hundreds of students from varying backgrounds and levels of biology knowledge.
I have also had success preparing students for the AP Biology exam through repetitive MCQ and FRQ practice, small at-home labs, and active note taking through lessons or videos. I approach AP Biology in a structured way, using current scientific phenomena when possible to help apply the material to the real world. AP Biology is challenging with many topics, so I like to focus on the vocabulary and patterns. Everything comes down to structure and function. I teach my students to recognize these patterns and apply them when answering the MCQs and FRQs.
I work with high school students currently but I have experience working with elementary and middle school students in tutoring as well. I am open to working with college students and adults to prepare them for their college-level biology courses (including genetics, ecology, biostats, microbio, and more).
