About Kassandra

I enjoy helping students learn. So I am currently tutoring the following subjects: Algebra 1, Biology, Elementary Math, Elementary Science, English, French, Grammar, Prealgebra, Proofreading, Reading, Spelling, Vocabulary & Writing! I have a vast array of subjects that I tutor because I have experience with each subject. I acquired that experience while attending California State University, Northridge (CSUN). Moreover, I enjoy studying these subjects on my own time. And that makes it easier for me to tutor my students in these subjects.

Furthermore, during Spring 1994 while I was still attending CSUN, I was employed at a private middle school/high school in Pacoima, California. I tutored students in a variety of subjects ranging from Prealgebra to English Composition. The students with whom I worked during my college years appreciated my help. For when I tutor, I am neither passive nor pusillanimous. I encourage my students by praising their triumphs and helping them work through their failures.

My tutoring method is very simple. I expect that each individual with whom I am tutoring to be committed to the process of learning. For instance, if I am helping a student who is not up to grade level in a subject, I take that student back to the basics! Than I help that student advance to their grade level. I am diligent in my teaching style; I help my students in a professional yet personal manner.

Moreover, I prefer to be called by my first name regardless of my students' age, and I require nothing but excellence from myself in regard to helping my students. So needless to say, I do require the same commitment from each student.
I enjoy helping students learn. So I am currently tutoring the following subjects: Algebra 1, Biology, Elementary Math, Elementary Read more

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have taken a large number of mathematics courses over many years. From elementary school through university, I had math courses. The highest level of math that I reached while attending California State University, Northridge (CSUN) was precalculus. By the way, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English (Option: Creative Writing) and a Minor in General Biology in May 1998.

Additionally, I have tutored students, who needed help with Algebra 1, at a private middle school/high school in Pacoima, California.

Moreover, I enjoy tutoring students who need help in math because I want to see them succeed at something that I excelled in during my school years.

My method for tutoring math is simple: Do lots and lots of problems with the student. That is the best way for the student to learn what he or she does not understand.

Biology

I am qualified to tutor in biology due to the fact that I earned a minor in General Biology from California State University, Northridge (CSUN) in May 1998. I also earner a Bachelor of Arts in English (Option: Creative Writing).

Additionally, I have tutored students at a private middle school/high school in Pacoima, California.

Additionally, my tutoring method is to review with the student what he or she does not understand. After that, I ask the student to repeat to me what we discussed, and if that student can do so successfully, I know that the student understands. If the student cannot successfully repeat what we just discussed then I will return to the beginning of what was just discussed during that session and reteach it to him or her so that he or she can have a stronger grasp of the subject.

Elementary Math

I have taken a large number of mathematics courses over many years. From elementary school through University, I had math courses. The highest level of math that I reached while at California State University, Northridge, (CSUN) was precalculus. By the way, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English (Option: Creative Writing) and a Minor in General Biology.

Additionally, I have tutored students, who needed help with Elementary Math, at a private middle school/high school in Pacoima, California.

Moreover, I am more than qualified to tutor math due to the extensive training I have received over the years while in school. I had to take many math courses in order to earn my degree and minor from CSUN.

My method for tutoring math is simple. I work lots and lots of problems with the student. I allow the student to take the lead. I am simply an observer who is helping the student. I do not interject any opinion about a problem unless I see that the student is stuck on that problem. That is the best way for the student to learn what he or she does not understand. After I have the student perform math computations, I ask the student to verbalize how to perform each math problem. This solidifies what the student has leaned during that tutoring session.

Elementary Science

I am qualified to tutor in elementary science due to the fact that I earned a minor in General Biology from California State University, Northridge (CSUN) in May 1998. I took several science classes in order to earn my minor.

Additionally, I have tutored students at a private middle school/high school in Pacoima, California.

Furthermore, my tutoring method is to review with the student what he or she does not understand.

English

I am more than qualified to tutor English for I eaned a Bachelor of Arts in English (Option: Creative Writing) and a Minor in General Biology from California State University, Northridge (CSUN) in May 1998.

Additionally, I have tutored students, who needed help with English, at a private middle school/high school in Pacoima, California.

My tutoring method is to simply review various sentence structures with the student. I will ask the student to describe the sentence to me. For example, I might ask the student to tell me what word in the sentence is a noun, a verb, an adverb, etc. Moreover, I will reteach anything that the student does not understand.

French

I started studying the language in 3rd grade. Moreover, I took French all through Junior High School and High School. In addition to that, I took two semesters of French while in college at California State University, Northridge (CSUN), and later for a refresher course, I took two semester at Antelope Valley College in Lancaster, California. When tutoring French, I speak solely in French. If my student needs something explained in English then I do so. I have no problem explaining in English, but I will also explain the same thing to the student in French. By the way, I earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Minor in General Biology from CSUN!

Grammar

I am qualified to tutor in grammar due to the fact that I received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in English (Option: Creative Writing) and a Minor in General Biology from California State University, Northridge (CSUN) in May 1998.

Additionally, I have tutored students, who needed help with Grammar, at a private middle school/high school in Pacoima, California.

I have a strong grasp of the English language, which makes me suitable and more than qualified to tutor. My tutoring method, as it relates to the subject of grammar, is to help the student acquire knowledge by giving the student sentences to correct. By correcting errors in sentences, he or she will learn the intricate qualities of grammar. I can help the student study the way that sentences found in the English language are constructed; morphology and syntax. Moreover, by having the student find errors in sentences, I can provide knowledge and/or usage of the preferred or prescribed forms in speaking or writing.

Prealgebra

While I was an undergraduate at California State University, Northridge (CSUN), I enrolled in a variety of math classes. When I ended my career at CSUN in May 1998, I had taken up to precalculus. Additionally, I have tutored students, who needed help with Prealgebra, at a private middle school/high school in Pacoima, California.

Moreover, I enjoy tutoring students in Math because I want to help them succeed at something that I excelled at during my time at elementary school, junior high school, high school, and university.

My method for tutoring math is simple: Have the student compute math problems in which he or she is struggling and having problems. That, I believe, is the best way for the student to learn what he or she does not understand. After that, if the student still does not understand the math problem then I will teach the student step by step how to compute the math problem.

Additionally, I have tutored students, who needed help with Reading, at a private middle school/high school in Pacoima, California.

My tutoring method is simple. I will have the student read text out loud to me. After that, I pose questions to the student about the passage. If he or she answers incorrectly, I simply have him or her start over again by rereading the passage, and I repeat the process of asking questions about the passage.

Spelling

I eaned a Bachelor of Arts in English (Option: Creative Writing) and a Minor in General Biology from California State University, Northridge (CSUN) in May 1998. And I had to write many essays and stories in school so my spelling had to be impeccable; otherwise, I would not have received good grades. I did well as a creative writing major so spelling was never an issue for me.

Additionally, I have tutored students, who needed help with Spelling, at a private middle school/high school in Pacoima, California.

My tutoring method is simple! I will have to go over each spelling word with the student by having him or her spell the word to me. If he or she makes a mistake then I just have him or her try to spell the word again. If he or she continues to misspell the word, I will have the student take the word home for further study.

And if there is a word that is not understood by the student, I will require that student to look up the word in the dictionary. Moreover, I will require that the student use the word in a sentence.
