Hi! My name is Michelle, and I’m excited to help students build confidence and better understand the subjects they are learning. I have been tutoring since 8th grade, when my Algebra 1 teacher asked me to help other students with 8th-grade mathematics. I worked with small groups of about 3–5 students and also provided one-on-one tutoring during my AVID lunch periods. Throughout high school, I continued tutoring students in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Biology, Spanish, and elementary-level math. I have worked with students ranging from about 7–16 years old, as well as adults who needed additional support with Algebra. These experiences have taught me that every student learns differently, so I try to explain concepts in multiple ways until we find an approach that makes sense to them.
My educational background has also given me a strong foundation in the subjects I tutor. I earned awards and medals in mathematics and Spanish and received two Biliteracy Awards recognizing my Spanish language abilities. I was also a dual-enrollment student, completing both high school and college coursework at the same time. I graduated with my high school diploma and Associate of Arts degree while also completing my nursing prerequisites. As a tutor, my goal is not simply to give students the answers, but to help them understand the material well enough to solve problems independently. I am patient, encouraging, and willing to slow down and revisit a concept when needed. I want my students to leave each session feeling more confident in their abilities and knowing that they are capable of succeeding.
I first identify what each student understands and where they need support, then adjust my teaching style to their pace and learning needs. I also appreciate receiving their study material beforehand so I can review it and come prepared. My goal is to make students feel comfortable asking questions while helping them understand the material and build confidence.
