I’m Brendon, a professional game designer and tutor with a Bachelor of Arts in Game Design from DigiPen Institute of Technology. I have over four years of professional game development experience, including working as a Junior Mission Designer at Raven Software, where I scripted mission logic and gameplay events. My other projects have involved C#, C++, Python, Unity, and Unreal Engine, and I have approximately 13 years of Photoshop experience through freelance graphic and web design. I enjoy helping students connect what they’re learning to something they can create, whether that’s a program, a game, or a design.
I have over three years of tutoring experience through private lessons and Varsity Tutors, along with experience as a teaching assistant for college-level programming courses. I’ve worked with students ranging from elementary age to adults, supporting foundational math skills, programming assignments, and technical coursework. I’ve also helped many students with special needs and learning differences, both in elementary all the way through college in some cases.
In a lesson, I start by finding out what the student understands and where they’re getting stuck. We work through an example in manageable steps, then I give them a chance to try with guidance before working independently. I use questions to help students reason through problems, but I also explain directly when they need a clearer starting point. If an explanation isn’t making sense, I try another example or approach. I welcome input from students and parents about what has helped before, and my goal is for students to leave each lesson with a stronger understanding and more confidence in their abilities.
