Hi, I'm Miss Laura and I have been working with students for over 20 years in both voluntary and professional capacities. I was a substitute teacher in grades K - 8 for 7 years and I've had my own tutoring business for 6 years. Hi, I'm Miss Laura and I have been working with students for over 20 years in both voluntary and professional capacities. I was a substitute teacher in grades K - 8 for 7 years and I've had my own tutoring business for 6 years. I believe that learning must be fun in order for the student to want to engage and I bring a very personable approach to all of my sessions. I teach all subjects K - 12, up to and including geometry, life science, history, humanities, language arts, etc. and I will use whatever resources are provided by the student and/or parent. I also offer a specialized reading program designed for learning challenged students which has proven highly successful with a wide range of impairments. As part of our regular curriculum, I also plan a few days per year of virtual field trips (ie. museums, underwater expeditions, space exploration) during the last 10 minutes of a regular session to celebrate a birthday, the seasons, holidays, and sometimes just because we need to feel the joy of learning something different.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Speech Communications which has enabled me to offer a wide expanse of teaching support. While working as a substitute teacher, many of my positions were long term at the elementary level and I also spent a considerable amount of time working in the Special Day Classes (Sp. Ed.), including working with emotionally disabled children. It was an extremely rewarding experience, one that I took seriously as I was their teacher for whatever period of time I was in that classroom. I am now able to bring the same passion to my online students whom I tutor while giving them the focus and attention that they need.

My goal is to give each student a positive learning experience and to help them realize their true potential while having fun. I look forward to meeting with you and your child and beginning our learning adventure!

Dyslexia

Dyslexia

I teach an Orton Gillingham based program that is geared toward dyslexic individuals, but it has proven successful with all of my neuroatypical students, including those with various types of dyslexia, auditory processing disorders, etc. This program is multisensory and interactive so that the student has the opportunity to "experience" the sounds and letter blends and is engaged throughout the lesson. The learning dynamic of each session is exciting and fun, enabling the student to not only remember what was taught during the session, but to embrace it.

Elementary (K-6th)

Following 7 years of substitute teaching for grades K - 8, I began tutoring 6 years ago in all subjects K - 12. Besides the basic subjects, I offer a specialized literacy program that was developed to help learning challenged students with reading, writing, and comprehension. I have a highly successful track record and can offer references upon request.
