I've been tutoring privately, and working as an instructional aide at our local middle school, for three years now and they have been incredibly rewarding jobs! I have a long work history of counseling at camps, running small groups, and aiding in special education, so you can imagine how much I've always enjoyed working with kids - both constructively and creatively.
It is important that we teach our students HOW to learn, to become independent and self-assured. Every students needs reminding that none of those things come without asking for help, receiving support, and utilizing their available resources. I have training in UDL (universal design for learning) and believe it is an essential part of the instruction process. No two kids learn the same way!
I work with both general and special education students to improve all areas of English and Language Arts: reading/writing/vocabulary and can offer a great support in proofreading and editing assignments. I have an excellent program for accelerating early readers, as well as building their vocabulary and sentence structure skills. I also have a great deal of fun working with early writers, and have an easy to follow plan for both essay and creative writing skills. I believe in meeting each student where they're at, and working up from there!
