Bio

Hi, my name is Caius,

I graduated from UC Berkeley six years ago and have been working as a math tutor in the SF Bay, Boulder, CO & Orange Co. on and off. Currently I am in Orange County! I offer instruction in all Calculus courses (I-III) to both college and high school students.

Hi, my name is Caius,

I graduated from UC Berkeley six years ago and have been working as a math tutor in the SF Bay, Boulder, CO & Orange Co. on and off. Currently I am in Orange County! I offer instruction in all Calculus courses (I-III) to both college and high school students.

A little about me: I've loved math since I was a very young kid, taught and inspired by my mom. I participated in Math Olympiads on the national level in Romania, where I grew up. In high school, by which time I was already living in California, I scored a perfect math SAT score, 5's on both AP Calculus tests, and received an award as math student of the year from my Calculus teacher. During college, I studied conservation and natural history with an emphasis in mathematics, and my math coursework included: Multi-variable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebra, Mathematical Logic, Differential Equations.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

High school students depend on the skills they learn in Algebra I throughout the rest of their high school and college career, not only in higher math classes, but in biology, chemistry, physics, etc. While teaching algebra skills to many different students I have learned various techniques for helping students grasp the ideas and workings of exponents, factoring, how to think about functions, how to become comfortable with fractions etc. I also focus on making sure students understand how all the different skills tie together. It is important for everyone to really have a solid understanding of the material in this class so that they don't trip up on poor algebra skills in higher classes. Algebra really becomes easy when it is explained clearly.

If you are taking Algebra II chances are you are either taking a college course as a prerequisite for an altogether different major, and mathematics is not your focus, or you (perhaps your daughter/son) are taking a regular high school class. A majority of the students I've had experience working with over the years have been college students outside a mathematics major and often without too strong of an interest in mathematics but needing to take an algebra, algebra II, or precalculus course as part of their required framework. I also have extensive experience working with high school students in various grades who are enrolled in the various high school classes such as geometry, algebra II, precalculus, or Calculus AB/BC.
Calculus

Geometry

Geometry

Geometry as we learn it in high school is still surprisingly similar to the way it looked when it was developed by Euclid in ancient times! This is one of the most useful branches of mathematics in everyday life to anyone who likes to work on projects like woodworking, making things at home, etc. And it's all very visual so it doesn't involve too many scary equations. Geometry is not often included at a course in college, so a majority of the students I have tutored in geometry have been high school students, or sometimes those taking courses through a university online.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

In college I took two classes on linear algebra, which turned out to be one of my favorite topics in mathematics. I have tutored students in this subject before, in the type of class for which linear algebra is paired up with differential equations, as well as in pure linear algebra introductory courses intended for math majors. Let me know if all those vector and matrix operations are starting to crash down over your head, I'd be happy to help you sort it out.
Precalculus

Precalculus

Precalculus is a common course at both the high school and college level. This has been one of the most common subjects that I have tutored; for many students both in high school and college, precalculus will be the highest-level math class they take if they don't choose to / are required to go on to calculus. I have tutored a number of students who wish to transfer from community colleges to a university and need to do well in this course in order to transfer into a particular major; here is a review from one particular student at BCC (Berkeley Community College): "Caius's patience and understanding helps you retain information and do well on your exams.
