I first started learning programming back in high school by tinkering on my TI-83 calculator. I'd write simple little scripts in its TI-BASIC language, learning the fundamentals about coding (variables, for loops, simple input/output). From there my desire to know more only grew. I took the high school's Java course and fell in love with computer programming. Compared to my calculator it felt like the possibilities were endless.
After high school I took a few courses at the community college, and then continued pursuing programming on my own time after work. I picked up the web languages (HTML, CSS, JS, React) and decided a more structured learning approach would benefit me. I studied with an online programming boot camp named TrueCoders. After taking the course they saw enough potential in me to hire me on as a teaching assistant. Not long after that they moved me to a full time instructor.
Working with TrueCoders was a blast, being able to teach students (mostly adults, with a few high schoolers) about web development. Classes were held Mon - Fri, fully remote, online. I'm would screen share for my students and do live coding lessons and examples in class. I'm very familiar with fielding questions from wildly varied levels on experience, and meeting students where they're at. Some students need repetition, some need encouragement, others need a structured itinerary, but all of them are capable. Sadly, not everything can last. After about 2 years, TrueCoders decided to focus more on their C# program, but I greatly appreciated the time I had with them, and how many people I was able to help.
Now, equipped with the knowledge and the experience needed, I'm hoping to find more students to inspire.
Thank you :)
