I Teach SAT Prep, AP Calculus, and Middle School Math

Hey, I'm Tyler! You ever feel like math is just too many rules to remember? Or that you learn how to do things, just to forget them by the next problem? It's not your fault! Chances are you're being taught wrong. I don't teach math by drowning you in practice problems, I focus on explaining HOW the strategies we use actually work. So that instead of having to strain your brain to remember which strategy you should use, you intuitively know how the problem works and the easiest way to solve it. After all, math is more of a puzzle than a stack of flashcards, don't waste time memorizing.

I am a Pre-Med college student at University of Miami with 5 years of experience tutoring ages 11-18. I got a 5 in AP Calculus and scored 1450 on the SAT. In addition to my love for math I am a youth competitive sailing coach in the summer, teaching middle schoolers how they can manipulate their sailboats to squeeze every last bit of speed out of the wind. So I have many many MANY hours teaching, academic and otherwise. And one thing I learned while trying to find a tutor for myself (I am terrible at biology), is that academic knowledge is only about 20% of the equation. You can be the best mathematician in the world, but unless you know how to break your knowledge down into small digestible pieces you won't be a good tutor. I bring both to the table: a knowledge of the subject, and the extensively practiced ability to convey that knowledge in a way that works for your individual learning style.
