Penn State (Kinesiology)
Hello! Here is a little background information on me. After playing soccer for one year at UC Davis, I transferred to Penn State in order to obtain a degree in kinesiology and to play for their soccer program. It is from my experiences of being on a team that I have learned how to listen, work with, and assist the students that I tutor in achieving their goals. While attending Penn State, I tutored college students and high school students in different math, science, and kinesiology subjects. I understand that much practice is needed before mastering any subject material. I never rush any of my students in learning new material, but am always patient so that the student fully grasps the material.
I specialize in tutoring math and science courses. Whether we are focusing on algebra 2 material or physics concepts, I hope to continually challenge my students throughout the entire tutoring session. Instead of solving entire problems for my students, I always make my students do as much of a problem as they possibly can. It is through this hands-on approach that my students have benefited the most.
I currently play for the OC Blues, a pro soccer team in the USL. Also, I work for Well Street/Learning Rx, a unique tutoring company. Instead of solely tutoring, I am an academic coach and improve students with mental capacity and cognitive skills using specialized Learning Rx training.

We are very pleased with Jacob B who has been tutoring our daughter in geometry. He is friendly, patient and knows how to build on what the student knows to get positive results. In just two lessons my daughter has re-gained her confidence in her geometry skills and her grade is starting to go back up. This is great news!
Jacob was helping my daughter with algebra II. I used him in the past, so I wanted to get someone my daughter was comfortable with and knew. She said he helped her out on the first session and they set up a second session.
This was my son's first tutoring experience and he felt is was very successful and that he learned a lot from Jacob and his style of teaching. He thought he would hate tutoring and it turned out to be much better than he ever expected.
Jacob is an excellent tutor! He was very patient with me throughout our tennis lesson. He maintained a great attitude and was very helpful in explaining the logistics, technique, and practice of the sport. He is an expert in his craft. Ever since Jacob has been tutoring my daughter, her grades in Pre-Calculus went from a D- to a B+. She actually got A's on a couple of her tests. He is very patient and he is flexible with her schedule since she does sports at her school.

Jacob is helping my son in precalculus to understand the concepts and work through the difficult homework. His class is being taught as an inverted classroom and some of the concepts need additional explanation for my son to master. Jacob is very patient and takes time to work with my son to be able to execute the problems on his own. I highly recommend Jacob to work with your student.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored ACT Math to multiple high school students.
I completely understand all the concepts in Algebra 1 and know how to teach these concepts to students. I have tutored Algebra 1 to students in both high school and college.
I have tutored high school students in Algebra 2. I understand how to effectively teach the concepts and push my students so that they fully grasp the material. With that said, I never rush my students into new material before they completely understand the previous material.
I have been playing chess since I was ten years old. I was in chess club throughout all my years of high school. In this chess club, I became a much better player, but also learned how to effectively help my fellow peers improve their own game by providing advice for strategy and how to think about future moves.
I have tutored students in elementary math. I know how to teach and explain the math so that it is both fun and challenging for the students. I am patient with students who may need more time learning the material. I enjoy teaching elementary math because this sparked my interest and enjoyment of taking math classes in the future.
I have worked with students in improving their knowledge of elementary science. I understand that it takes alot of memorizing for this subject, which I am good at my helping my students become better at. I am patient and explain the material in an effective, but easy to understand way.
While doing one-on-one soccer training to high school kids throughout my time at Penn State, I incorporated fitness training as well. I used many of my own physical trainers methods to help improve my kids power, strength, and quickness on the soccer field.
In addition, if certain kids needed longer distance training in order to increase their cardiovascular and endurance ability, I would incorporate the training that I perform with my own team to these kids. I always encourage the kids that I work with, but also push them to their limit so that the greatest improvements can be made in their fitness.
Geometry was one of my favorite math subjects that I took in high school. While I was in college, I tutored Geometry to students in high school. I greatly improved their grade, but also helped them learn to enjoy the subject as I once did.
I have worked with junior and high school students who struggled in pre-algebra. I understand all the material and know how to effectively teach the material to students. I take my time to explain the material and know how to make my students feel relaxed and comfortable throughout the tutoring session.
I have tutored precalculus to students in high school. I know how to effectively explain and teach the concepts in precalculus. I am patient and easy to talk to when tutoring my students. I push my students so that they can learn the most from my tutoring sessions.
I have worked with students in preparing and improving their SAT math score. Also, I provide some advice as to how to take the test in general.
I have played soccer since I was six years old. I played division one soccer for Penn State. Before coming to college, I worked numerous soccer camps for kids ranging from age five to age eighteen.
Throughout my time at Penn State, I performed one-on-one soccer training for three kids in high school. I improved their technical ability, and short and long range passing game by training them in the racquetball courts and out on the soccer field.
As a former division one soccer athlete at Penn State, I helped many of my teammates better manage their study skills so that they would not become overwhelmed with soccer and school. I used these experiences of working with my teammates to also help the study skills of the students I tutored throughout college. I showed my students how using better time management, picking the right location, and choosing the right time to study time played a huge part in how much each of my students benefited from studying. I not only helped my students learn when and where it was best for them to study, but also the certain way of studying, doing homework, or preparing for tests that would best benefit their study skills.
I have played tennis since I was ten years old. I played varsity tennis in high school. During high school, I worked with children in improving their ground strokes, volleying, and speed and placement of serving.
I always try to create a fun environment. I have seen that when the children have enjoyed the lessons I have given they not only get the most out of the lessons but also become more improved over time.
I have taught trigonometry to students in the past. I understand the trigonometric identities and do a good job at explaining them to my students. I am patient, but like to push my students so that they get the most out of my tutoring sessions.
