Hello! I'm Jennifer, a certified public school teacher with more than 22 years of experience helping students build confidence and achieve academic success. I currently teach Integrated Math 1 and Integrated Math 2 at a California public high school, and throughout my career I have taught both mathematics and English Language Arts in middle and high school classrooms. I hold a Bachelor's degree from Duke University, a Master's degree in English Education from the University of Georgia, and an Education Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University. I am fully credentialed in Mathematics, English, and Foundational-Level Science.

In addition to my classroom experience, I have more than 10 years of online teaching experience. I have taught for a fully online public charter school, developed online curriculum in both mathematics and English Language Arts, trained teachers in effective virtual instruction, and served as a Pearson CalTPA Mathematics Assessor, evaluating instructional practices for future teachers. These experiences have given me a strong understanding of how to explain challenging concepts in ways that are clear, engaging, and personalized to each student's learning style.

My tutoring approach focuses on helping students truly understand concepts rather than simply memorizing procedures. I believe every student can succeed when instruction is tailored to their needs, and I enjoy breaking complex ideas into manageable steps while building confidence along the way. Whether a student needs help catching up, preparing for an exam, improving writing skills, or earning higher grades in math or English, I strive to create a supportive environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and celebrating their progress. I look forward to partnering with students and families to help each learner reach their goals.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I currently teach Integrated Math 1 at a California public high school, where Algebra 1 concepts form a significant portion of the curriculum. Throughout my 22-year teaching career, I have taught mathematics to middle and high school students in both traditional classrooms and online learning environments, helping students develop strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills. My teaching emphasizes conceptual understanding, multiple solution strategies, and building confidence so students can successfully apply algebraic concepts independently. Whether students need help mastering foundational skills, completing homework, preparing for tests, or catching up after falling behind, I provide personalized instruction that meets them where they are and helps them achieve lasting success.
English

English

I hold a Bachelor's degree in English and a Master's degree in English Education, and I have more than 22 years of experience teaching English Language Arts to middle and high school students. Throughout my career, I have taught reading, writing, grammar, literature, and academic writing in both traditional classrooms and fully online schools. My approach emphasizes developing strong reading comprehension, critical thinking, and clear written communication while helping students become more confident and independent learners. Whether students need support with literary analysis, essay writing, grammar, homework, or preparing for assessments, I provide individualized instruction that builds skills they can use long after our tutoring sessions.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Pre-Algebra provides the foundation students need to be successful in Algebra 1 and higher-level mathematics, and I have spent more than 22 years helping middle and high school students strengthen these essential skills. I currently teach high school mathematics and have previously taught college-preparatory middle school math, giving me extensive experience helping students transition from arithmetic to algebraic thinking. My instruction focuses on developing number sense, solving equations, working with integers, fractions, decimals, ratios, and proportional reasoning while helping students understand why mathematical procedures work. I tailor each lesson to the student's individual needs, building confidence and filling learning gaps so they are well prepared for future math courses.
