However, I specialize in college writing and high school and college-level Latin.
As a Latin tutor, I take a grammar-first approach, helping students identify patterns in Latin grammar that will simplify the translation process. I remember being in school and getting frustrated when teachers kept telling me how to do something without explaining why. As an educator, I turned that frustration into a teaching philosophy: use the why to explain and solidify the how. I believe that this process promotes deep understanding and I’ve used it to help countless students succeed. In addition to providing concise explanations of complex concepts, I will also create personalized handouts when needed to further support student learning.
As an English and writing tutor, I help students build strong arguments by focusing on essay structure and taking an evidence-first approach. During sessions, we will work on honing skills like close-reading, identifying themes, and explaining how evidence proves your thesis. I am also passionate about helping students connect to the subject they’re writing about, because the more excited a student is about the topic, the better the result will be. In my years of tutoring English and writing, I have helped students write A+ argumentative papers in areas ranging from literature to psychology and economics.
More than anything, I always teach with enthusiasm and build every lesson around my student’s needs. I am passionate about helping students gain a fundamental understanding of course material so they can improve their grades and carry what they’ve learned with them into the future.
