I am a PhD Mathematician (UC San Diego) and former adjunct professor with over a decade of experience teaching everything from AP Calculus to Differential Equations. Whether you are a UCSD student tackling Discrete Math or a professional preparing for the GMAT, my goal is to help you master the 'why' behind the math. I currently teach Applied Statistics at SCY High and have served as a professor at SDSU, USD, and local colleges, specializing in making complex concepts intuitive.

My academic foundation, including a B.A. from USD and a minor in Computer Science, allows me to bridge the gap between pure theory and practical application. This was especially clear during my time as a SAS programmer, where I used math to solve real-world problems in industry. My teaching portfolio is diverse: I’ve guided students through Precalculus at Torah High, Prealgebra at AoPS Academy, and advanced university courses like Linear Algebra and Differential Equations. I am particularly passionate about 'pure' math topics like Modern Algebra and Number Theory, which I incorporate into my sessions to build a student's logical rigor.

In my tutoring practice, I utilize the Socratic method. Rather than providing quick answers, I use open-ended questions to encourage discussion and promote critical thinking. This discovery-based approach is highly effective for high-stakes exams like the GRE, SAT, or ASVAB, and for mastering technical tools like SQL, MATLAB, or Excel. I believe that when a student discovers an insight for themselves, they gain the confidence to tackle any complex problem independently.

Approved Subjects

CBEST

CBEST

I am qualified to tutor in CBEST (Math) because the skill areas being tested are estimation, measurement statistical principles, computation, problem solving, numerical, and graphic relationships. These skill areas are well within my capabilities as a mathematician. I have tutored students in similar tests such as SAT Math and TEAS (Math).
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

I am qualified to tutor in Differential Equations because I took the Differential Equations course at USD as an undergrad. I was also a Teaching Assistant for the Differential Equations course at UCSD for several quarters. I am currently tutoring a student in Partial Differential Equations.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I am qualified to tutor in Discrete Math because I am a mathematician (specifically, a number theorist). Discrete Math includes a number of distinct areas of study such as mathematical logic, set theory, number theory, combinatorics, graph theory, and mathematical relations. My graduate work was in number theory and graph theory. I also took combinatorics in grad school. I tutored a high school student in Discrete Math recently.
Finite Math

Finite Math

I taught Discrete Math this semester (Spring 2016) and last semester (Fall 2015). Among the finite math topics, I covered logic, sets, counting, I also taught Linear Algebra this semester, where I covered vectors and matrices. I also covered vectors in my Calculus III class this semester.
ISEE

ISEE

I am qualified to tutor in ISEE (Math) because the skill areas being tested are found in arithmetic through pre-calculus. These skill areas are well within my capabilities as a mathematician. I have tutored students in ISEE (Math). I use the Socratic or inquiry method of teaching so that students can arrive at their own conclusions and build knowledge.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

I taught Linear Algebra at a university this semester (Spring 2016). I will also be teaching Linear Algebra at a community college this summer. As a math major, I took Linear Algebra as one of my classes and did very well in it.
Mathematica

Mathematica

I am qualified to tutor in Mathematica because I used it while I was in grad school. I used Mathematica to plot graphs for my dissertation. I also used it in college for plotting graphs in Calculus 3.
MATLAB

MATLAB

I am qualified to tutor in MATLAB because I used it while I was in grad school. I used MATLAB to calculate the eigenvalues of the adjacency matrices of the graphs for my dissertation. I also used it in college for plotting graphs in Calculus 3.
SAS

SAS

I am qualified to tutor in SAS because I have been using SAS since 1999. I worked as a SAS programmer for several companies. I am the vice president of a local SAS Users Group.
TEAS

TEAS

I am qualified to tutor in TEAS (Math) because the skill areas being tested are basic math skills such as whole numbers, fractions, decimals, ratios, proportions, percents, geometry, measurement, probability, statistics, equations, inequalities, exponents, polynomials, and radicals. These skill areas are within my capabilities as a mathematician. I have tutored students in tests such as SAT Math, GRE Math, and TEAS (Math).

Great tutor highly recommend

As a beginner with Matlab he was very helpful and very patient. Any work that I needed help with he was able to guide me through while also letting me think through it first to see if I could try and solve it on my own before stepping in. Highly recommend using Archie as he has helped me keep up with my Matlab class

G reat lesson!

Archie helped me understand for of the concepts that I will have to deal with in my next exam, tho it was a lot of work with different equations and different mentions, his non-judgmental and patient tutoring helped me understand that I have to do to be able to get a high score for my next exam coming up.
