I am a fourth-year M.D. candidate at the UC San Diego School of Medicine with extensive experience in medical education and standardized test preparation. Through medical school, I have completed the preclinical and core clinical curricula and successfully passed USMLE Step 1. I have also tutored medical school peers preparing for both Step 1 and Step 2, helping them work through challenging concepts, clinical reasoning, and exam strategy. During my own Step 2 preparation, I increased my score from the 230s on a practice NBME to the 260s on the actual exam in approximately four weeks, giving me firsthand experience with efficient, high-yield preparation and rapid score improvement.

Before and during medical school, I worked as a professional MCAT tutor with Blueprint, providing individualized, one-on-one instruction to students preparing for a high-stakes standardized exam. I assessed each student's strengths and weaknesses, adapted explanations to their learning style, developed personalized study plans, and used practice questions to teach both content knowledge and test-taking strategy. My approach emphasizes active learning rather than lecturing: I ask students to explain their reasoning, identify where their thought process went off track, and develop a repeatable framework they can apply to future questions.

I bring the same approach to USMLE and medical school tutoring. I help students review difficult clinical concepts, work through question banks and NBME-style cases, build differential diagnoses, recognize high-yield patterns, and improve pacing and question strategy. My goal is not simply to explain why one answer is correct, but to help students develop effective study strategies and strengthen the clinical reasoning skills needed to answer similar questions independently.

Approved Subjects

MCAT

MCAT

I am a fourth-year medical student at UC San Diego with prior professional experience tutoring the MCAT through Blueprint. In that role, I provided individualized, one-on-one tutoring across all four MCAT sections: Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems, Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills (CARS), Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems, and Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior. I helped students strengthen content knowledge, identify areas for improvement, and develop personalized study and test-taking strategies. My broader teaching experience also includes tutoring and leading academic workshops during college, which helped me develop an adaptable approach for students with different learning styles. I focus on helping students understand high-yield concepts, reason through challenging passages and questions, and build efficient strategies they can apply confidently across the exam.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

I am a fourth-year medical student at UC San Diego who has successfully navigated the highly competitive college and medical school admissions processes. I have firsthand experience developing my own applications and have also helped others strengthen their personal statements and applications for admission to competitive academic and professional programs. I help students craft personal statements with a clear narrative, authentic voice, strong organization, and specific experiences that demonstrate their strengths rather than simply listing accomplishments. I can support students at every stage of the process, from brainstorming and outlining to detailed editing and final polishing.
USMLE

USMLE

I am a fourth-year medical student at UC San Diego with experience tutoring medical students preparing for both USMLE Step 1 and Step 2. During my own Step 2 preparation, I improved from the 230s on a practice NBME to the 260s on the actual exam in approximately four weeks (happy to provide score report as proof). My teaching experience also includes tutoring and leading academic workshops during college, as well as professional one-on-one standardized test tutoring through Blueprint, where I developed individualized study plans and taught both content and test-taking strategy. My Step 2 tutoring focuses on clinical reasoning, high-yield content review, question-bank analysis, and developing efficient strategies students can apply independently on exam day.

Great Feedback and Test-Taking Strategies

I had a great experience working with Sargis. He was very knowledgeable and did an excellent job explaining the material and providing detailed, constructive feedback on my question-solving approach. He was able to identify specific areas I could improve on, including recognizing high-yield clues, eliminating answer choices, and managing fatigue and test anxiety. I found the session very helpful and came away with several practical strategies that I can apply to my studying and future practice questions. I would definitely recommend Sargis to anyone preparing for USMLE Step 1 who is looking for a knowledgeable tutor who provides thoughtful and personalized feedback.
