Hello! My name is George, and I have a B.S. in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience from the University of California San Diego, where I built a strong foundation on concepts such as neurophysiology, neuropharmacology, psychological disorders, and learning and memory. I also gained hands on teaching experience as an instructional assistant for an upper division behavioral neuroscience course, whereI led weekly discussions, held office hours for one-on-one support for college students, created study guides and review slides, as well as created informational videos on topics discussed in class. I’ve worked with instructional staff to gauge the best practices for students in their success in the class, and also communicated with students about what would help them the most in achieving their academic goals.
During my time a senior in high school, I was a TA for AP English Language and Composition, where I assisted students in improving their analytical skills in writing, as well as comprehension in rhetorical works, in order to improve their approach in argumentative writing. I worked alongside my teacher to assist students in improving their writing by decoding complex works in literature and history.
My goal is to help condense complex information into understandable material, in order to help students succeed and enhance their understanding of the material being taught. I focus on breaking concepts step-by-step and using real life examples, as a way of solidifying and consolidating the information. I stress successful study habits that will promote learning and prevent burnout. My goal as a tutor is to create a low-pressure learning environment where students can feel more confident in improving their grasp of the material, and also set them up to keep that momentum in future courses relative to their academic endeavors.
