I hold a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and am currently enrolled in a Material Science PhD. My tutoring experience is predominantly in college age and elementary school age students.
During college I worked part time off and on for several years at a Montessori Elementary school in my home town in New Mexico as well as tutoring freshman and sophomore college students in a variety of entry level science subjects. I have tutored 200+ hours combined between elementary school students and college students. I tutor all subjects for elementary school children and I prefer to tutor chemistry for college age and adult students, although I am very flexible and have tutored introductory physics and other subjects as well. I am relatively extroverted and enjoy working with both kids and adults and would classify my communication skills as good / above average.
I believe effective tutoring is primarily dependent on the articulation and preparedness of the tutor. My rate is $200/hour because I will take the time to study and re-familiarize myself with the subject at hand before sitting down with you. (Furthermore, I have had to greatly increase my rate recently due to high demand). I find many tutors gloss over this important step in the process and my promise to my students is that I will come prepared to carefully explain the material.
