Hello! My name is Jin, and I am an upper-division college student at UC San Diego. I am a dedicated tutor with several years of experience. For around seven years, I have volunteered as a tutor for elementary age kids. The skills I have helped young learners develop include reading comprehension, grammar, and syntax, among many other important English language skills. The work I have done with secondary students includes peer tutoring history in middle school and high school for a combined total of six years. My work experience so far has involved a combination of tutoring a classroom of students as well as one-on-one tutoring, so I am comfortable with tutoring individuals or a group. Although my current main area of study is the history of East Asia, I am also familiar with American history and world history. (For students taking Advanced Placement classes, I was an AP Scholar with Distinction and earned a five on the AP US History exam.) Since starting college, I have received Provost’s Honors each quarter of attendance, and I am currently working to develop my humanities honors thesis. These experiences have given me the wonderful opportunity to teach and learn from many incredible individuals, and it would be my pleasure to share my knowledge to help prepare students for academic success.
I come from a family of teachers, so I know first hand how important it is for students to receive a quality education. Most recently, I worked as an academic advisor at my university for first and second year students. As an academic advisor, I helped prepare my fellow college students for success through one-on-one instruction and by creating personalized academic plans intended to help each individual thrive. All of my past experiences have allowed me to develop a strong sense of empathy and a passion for helping students achieve in school - free of judgment and stress.
