My name is Mauricio, and I have a long standing passion for teaching and tutoring mathematics. I earned my degree in mathematics from UCLA in 2000, followed by a master’s in education and a secondary math teaching credential in 2003. With more than 20 years of combined experience in teaching and tutoring, I bring both strong subject knowledge and a deep understanding of how students learn mathematics at different stages.

My professional experience includes four years teaching middle school pre algebra and five years teaching high school mathematics, where I taught courses such as Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre Calculus, and AP Statistics. I currently work as an Instructional Support Specialist, tutoring community college students in a wide range of math subjects, from algebra through differential equations. While I support multiple areas, I primarily specialize in statistics and enjoy helping students navigate what is often a challenging subject with greater clarity and confidence.

My approach to tutoring is patient, structured, and student focused. I emphasize clear explanations, step by step problem solving, and building a strong conceptual foundation so students understand not just how to solve problems, but why the methods work. I adapt my instruction to each student’s needs and learning style, creating a supportive environment where questions are encouraged. My goal is to help students feel more confident in math and develop skills they can apply independently beyond our sessions.
