ESL: With over 20 years' experience teaching high school students from various language backgrounds, most entering ninth grade with no English at all, to quickly gain the needed proficiency to complete graduation and college entrance requirements on time, I have the material and techniques to help you with any level or skill. I have also enjoyed teaching English to middle-school, college, and adult students seeking professional advancement from many parts of the world privately, in language institute settings, and abroad.
German: Having attended German universities for three years, taught in German public schools for six years, and lived for a further four years in Germany, I have near-native fluency in speaking, reading, and writing, a CA credential, and college teaching experience as well to recommend me for tutoring or translating. How about a small class for beginners?

Marylou is very patient and knowledgeable. She has many years experience of teaching English. I just have one class from her yet. If I will take more class or my friends need, will recommend her for sure. Thank for Marylou's help.
I am speaking on behalf of my daughter. I don't speak/understand German myself. However, so far at our first meeting, she imparted some valuable knowledge about German to my 15-year old daughter. She inspired my daughter to say again, "I love German", and she also inspired my daughter to say, "Thank you, Mom, for finding Marylou". She didn't want a tutor, but she has been frustrated with her German class and feeling like her questions go unanswered in her large public school. Marylou, I believe, is the knowledgeable, enthusiastic, kind and patient sort of professional we need to assist my daughter in regaining her enthusiasm for German and for getting on the right track in terms of really understanding the German language. Two thumbs up.
Words can't describe how much we love Marylou. She's delightful, knowledgeable, patient, and so nurturing. She motivates my son and is a pleasure to have in our home. She brings piano to life and makes it meaningful - even when it comes to composing songs with my son!
Marylou is terrific. She is patient and kind and really knows how to teach. I am enjoying my lessons and have improved considerably.
Mrs. Marylou has been very patient with my son during the course of reviewing his college homework and assignments and has also demonstrated a great deal of professionalism in handling and guiding him in that direction. She is continually preparing him to make progress and achieve the maximum results when completing his grades.
I went into the search for a German language teacher with much angst. Ms. P. was just the ticket. Like I have said before I dreaded this whole thing until I met her. And now I can't wait for each lesson. And now as I see it I will be competently and fluently speaking conversational German within a year or two. I like the large "50-cent words" in German too. I hope to be able to translate those as I want to go further with this schooling and learn engineering and technological words too. And she has been much help in that direction also. Now to get down to the homework during this holiday season. It's really fun I can tell you.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a California credentialed English teacher, with Language Development Specialist certification for teaching ESL in California schools, and have over 25 years' experience teaching students from many different language backgrounds in both public and private schools in this country and in Germany, as well as success with private tutoring, including adults who have been working/studying in California for some time and wish to perfect their English to an even higher level.
I speak, read, and write German fluently from having majored in German as an undergraduate at Rochester and a graduate student and teaching assistant at the University of Wisconsin. In Germany I was a Fulbright exchange student for two years at University of Cologne, followed by four years teaching at a Realschule in Germany. I have lived in Germany a total of 12 years, including two US Government teacher exchanges.
