As a reading, writing, and French tutor of over 10 years, I have served students ranging from pre-kindergarten to adult ages. I accommodate both group and one-on-one appointments. I have worked closely with many of my families for 5+ years, in-person or through a hybrid of in-person and online lessons. Most of my business has come locally from word of mouth and I am more than happy to provide references upon request while I work to build my Wyzant presence.

My teaching formation, consisting of 45 graduate coursework units through a University of California program and 550+ mentored teaching hours in elementary classrooms adds to my years of practical tutoring experience. I also have two years of experience as a library literacy program coordinator serving adult learners.
I use the Orton-Gillingham approach in assessing and assisting struggling readers, leaving nothing to chance in their reading development by targeting subtle issues that often affect reading on a foundational level. Over several years, I have adapted the same system to address spelling issues as well, helping students think critically about spelling patterns: i.e. why is ”carrot” spelled with “c” rather than “k”? It turns out there is a rule for that, and I am ready to teach it with games and targeted practice!
I hold a double major in English and French and I spent one year living abroad in Aix-en-Provence, France. I speak French on a daily basis and enjoy tutoring others as they learn the language. Some students opt for conversational practice with targeted pronunciation and grammar feedback while others choose a more intensive homework approach accompanied by shorter tutoring sessions that efficiently correct oral and written errors.
