I have experience with diverse learners, including English learners and students with learning disabilities. Even though the learning process can be difficult, I like helping my students wrestle through the material so that they can better master the content. I think it's exciting, especially when the lightbulbs start turning on! Given that I have worked as a teacher for close to 15 years, I have a lot of strategies to help you learn. I'd like to help you get to know your learning styles so that you can know what works best for you!

I was a Spanish major in college, and I first started tutoring in both Spanish when I was in high school. I studied abroad in Santiago, Chile, and traveled extensively throughout South America during that semester. For both family vacations abroad and international trips with my friends, I'm usually designated as the in-house translator!

As part of my teaching credential prep requirements, I successfully completed the CBEST in 2008. I have also successfully completed the CSET in both Multiple Subjects and English, as well as the RICA. I hold a Reading & Literacy Added Authorization and my official National Board Certification is anticipated later this year.

I have worked with students with special needs at a nearby high school for 10 years as both an instructional assistant (2 years) as well as an Education Specialist / Special Education teacher / case manager (8 years).

I'd love to hear from you to see if we can find a time that fits both our schedules. I encourage all my students to do what's best for them: find a tutor that you connect best with! You might not have control over your classroom teachers, but you do have control over your after-school tutor!

Amazing tutor!

I have had many sessions with Marisa and she is amazing to say the least! I love how patient she is with me, considering I need tons of help in math. She is very flexible and that is helpful. When it comes to explaining concept she does a nicely job and always ask if I have any questions which makes me feel comfortable enough to ask questions :) I would highly recommend Marisa!

Knowledgeable, creative, and patient tutor

I was very fortunate to have found Marisa to help me learn math for the CBEST exam. It was 30 years since I learned this type of math, but with Marisa's teaching style, the memory of working out the problems quickly returned. I am so incredibly grateful for her patience, kindness, and creativity in teaching certain math concepts. She actually made it fun and interesting! She is adept at recognizing learning styles and adjusts accordingly. She connects math concepts to the real world, which is helpful and appreciated. Marisa never made me feel stupid and was always willing to review, review, review the same type of problem. I highly recommend her to anyone needing to relearn or review math for school or state exams. She is a natural and gifted tutor with a great sense of humor who will certainly produce results for any learner.

Super sweet, very patient, makes learning fun/ & easy to understand

Marisa is super great! Math is not one of my strong suits and so having the opportunity of having her as my tutor is great! She’s so sweet, patient and makes learning fun and easy to understand with visuals along with moving along with your individual learning style! I totally recommend her, especially for prepping for the CBEST!

Kind and extremely helpful

We went through the practice test questions from the CBEST and she showed me ways to solve the problems that were easy to follow. She was encouraging and helped me realize I remember more about Math than I thought I did. I was able to really enjoy the lesson. It was a great experience.
