About Alan

Hello, my name is Alan. I graduated from UCI in 2013 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. I have about 3 years of experience tutoring in math. I started when I was in high school and during that time, I would help friends and other classmates in different math subjects ranging from Algebra 1 to Calculus. Math was always my favorite subject when I was growing up but what I enjoyed more was helping my friends with their math homework and seeing their moment of "a-ha!" once their light bulb turned on and were able to solve the problem.

When I entered high school, I started geometry and completed up to Calculus II by the time I graduated. In addition to taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses, I also enrolled in community college courses each summer so I could accelerate my coursework and be ahead before school started in the fall. I received A's and B's in my math courses, the highest score of a "5" on both AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC, and a 780/800 on Math SAT. I have an understanding of learning and curriculum in high school/honors/AP environment as well as learning in a community college or university.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
