Yan has tutored my son for three sessions. She is a very good tutor. She is clearly knowledgeable regarding numerous aspects of mandarin Chinese. At each session, she has taught word recognition, character recognition and pronunciation. This approach is good for children because it allows them to start speaking the language from the very first session. She also recognizes that children like treats/rewards, so she always provides a small reward at the end if my son does well. She also recognizes that children want to know certain things (for example how to say a particular word in Chinese) so she will deviate somewhat from her plans to satisfy my son's curiosity. I enthusiastically recommend Yan.

Excellent understanding of Chinese and English languages.
Yan demonstrated her excellent understanding of the Chinese and English languages. She wrote sentences in Chinese that I had developed in English to assist students in mastering sight words. The sentences contained many idioms in English that Yan was able to quickly translate into equivalent Chinese. Yan is knowledgebale and a pleasure to work with.
