Hello! My name is Lauryn V., and I am a third-year student at the University of California, Irvine, majoring in Chemistry with a concentration in Biology and minors in Criminology and Medicinal Anthropology. Rigorous STEM coursework has given me a deep understanding of general chemistry, organic chemistry, and analytical laboratory science. With over 270 hours of university lab experience, I work regularly with complex data, spectrometry, chromatography and much more. This hands-on background allows me to translate complex and abstract textbook concepts into real-world, practical examples for students.
My teaching method focuses heavily on patience, clarity, and building confidence. As a Community Safety Ambassador for the UC Irvine Police Department, I am trusted with a high level of campus responsibility and public communication. This role has sharpened my ability to explain complex concepts clearly, manage stressful situations, and maintain an approachable presence. These communication skills translate perfectly to helping students overcome academic frustration. Additionally, I enjoy integrating essential time management and organizational strategies. In doing so, students build successful study habits that keep them organized and on track, which is crucial for mastering the intensive STEM courses.
I also have experience working with high school students, having successfully tutored my younger sister and her classmates through their science and math courses. When working with students, I don't just provide answers to memorize, I teach the foundational problem-solving frameworks so they can confidently tackle new problems on their own. Combining my analytical training with the practical skills learned from UCIPD, I help students understand the logic behind the equations they solve. Whether they want to master AP Chemistry, survive a college level introductory course, or build better study habits, I am dedicated to helping them succeed.
