I recently graduated from UCI with a degree in Pure Mathematics and a concentration in Mathematical Biology, finishing summa cum laude and first in my class, with a 4.0 GPA. I have been tutoring mathematics for nearly 10 years, beginning in high school, and have worked with students ranging from elementary school through college level math. Throughout that time, I’ve tutored in both one on one and group settings and have developed a strong passion for helping students build confidence in subjects that can often feel intimidating.
My teaching philosophy centers around learning by doing. I believe students learn math best when they are actively engaged in solving problems themselves rather than simply watching someone else do the work. During sessions, I act as a pillar of support by guiding students through concepts, offering mathematical tips and tricks, and helping break down difficult problems into manageable steps. I am patient, relatable, and highly adaptable in the way I teach because I understand that no two students learn the same way. Some students benefit from visual explanations, others from repetition or hands on practice, and I enjoy tailoring my approach to fit each individual student’s learning style and goals.
In addition to tutoring, I currently coach high school lacrosse and have previous experience as a karate instructor and summer camp counselor. Working closely with students and athletes has strengthened my communication skills and taught me how to motivate students while keeping learning engaging and encouraging. I especially enjoy working with athletes because I understand the balance between academics, sports, and busy schedules. Over the years, I’ve helped students improve not only their grades, but also their study habits, problem solving skills, and overall confidence in math. My goal is always to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and growing as learners.
