I also have training in special education and ESL from my time teaching English at a small, private international school in Tokyo, Japan. I am currently a doctoral researcher and writing instructor at UC Irvine. During the school year, I teach undergraduate research, writing and rhetoric courses. I have earned an Inclusive Design Certificate for course design and teaching at UCI.

I have served as a college application guide for several application seasons, and particularly enjoy helping prospective college students locate exciting programs and craft well-written and authentic essays for their apps.

Approved Subjects

College Counseling

College Counseling

I have worked as a private college application coach for incoming high school seniors for the past four application cycles. My pupils have successfully been admitted to UC's and CSU's as well as competitive pre-nursing and engineering programs at small private universities in the southwest. I can offer consistent and structured meetings to coach students through the full application process, from developing target school lists to finalizing personal and supplemental essays, or I can provide one-off writing consultations for fine-tuning essays. I also have experience sitting as a scholarship essay reviewer at a European university, so I can provide essay pointers for students that are simultaneously applying for external funding.
English

English

I worked as an English teacher at a private international school in Japan and taught reading, writing, and test-taking skills to elementary and middle school level students. I currently teach Composition courses within the English department at UC Irvine. I can help with early English skills, ESL, as well as essay writing.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I currently serve as a writing instructor for undergraduate level courses in UC Irvine's Composition Program. The main focus of my courses is improving research abilities and essay writing. I have a vast repertoire of writing exercises and projects that will help develop my pupils' skills, no matter their starting place.
Reading

Reading

I served as an English teacher at a small international school in Tokyo. I taught early phonics and reading skills to my first graders, and instructed more complex reading comprehension for my higher level students. Some of my most advanced students worked with me individually after school on reading-related test-taking skills in preparation for the EIKEN English examination, so I welcome working with ESL students as well. I can also advise on university-level reading and research skills, as I currently teach research and writing courses to undergraduate students.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

I teach in the Composition Program at UC Irvine, and instruct and assess students on their undergraduate capstone writing projects. These projects are research-based and serve as a small thesis showcasing their writing abilities at the end of their college studies. I therefore have experience advising students in the research and writing process, and have a rich toolkit of activities and exercises for strengthening writing projects. While my personal expertise is in the humanities and social sciences, I can offer proofreading services and writing support for students working in STEM as well.
