Hi, I’m Johanna! (or 'Ms. J,' to my younger students) I have been a multi-sensory tutor since 2017 for students struggling with foundational skills in reading, spelling, writing, and mathematics. My own two children are dyslexic and that is how I came to train in evidence-based muti-sensory instructions methods. Most of my clients/students are dyslexic, or show signs of dyslexia, but no official diagnosis is needed for my teaching approach to help, as multi-sensory instruction benefits all students, no matter their neurotype. I hold a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and another Master’s Degree in Urban Planning, both from the University of California, Irvine.

I have always loved reading and math, and now I get to share that love with students who mistakenly believe they are flawed because they have struggled with foundational skills in school. Through evidence-based, multi-sensory methods, I teach skills that empower students to gain the strategies and self-confidence needed to regain their love of learning and belief that they are capable of succeeding with the right, neuroscience-backed learning methods. I am experienced and/or certified in Linguistic Phonics/EBLI, Barton, ThinkSRSD, and Singapore Math.

I use KoalaGO for online tutoring as it is specifically created for tutors of K-12 students and more interactive and engaging than Zoom.
