Hi! My name is Isam and I am currently an MD/PhD student at the University of California, Irvine. I completed my undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, where I developed a strong foundation in the sciences and discovered my passion for teaching and mentoring. My academic and research training has given me extensive experience in biology, physiology, anatomy, cancer biology, and immunology. Through both coursework and laboratory work, I have learned to connect abstract scientific principles to real-world applications, which allows me to explain challenging material in ways that students can understand and apply themselves.

I have several years of experience tutoring and mentoring undergraduate, pre-medical, and medical students in one-on-one and small group settings. Much of this work has involved guiding students through difficult physiology concepts and complex biology topics, helping them break down the information into clear, manageable steps. My tutoring approach is student-centered, with an emphasis on identifying weak areas, reinforcing core knowledge, and teaching effective problem-solving strategies. Many of the students I’ve worked with were preparing for demanding exams like the MCAT, and I supported them not only with content review but also with time management and study planning. My goal as a tutor is to meet each student where they are, build confidence, and provide the tools they need to succeed in their coursework and beyond.

Anatomy

Anatomy

I have a strong academic foundation in anatomy from both my undergraduate studies at the University of Massachusetts, Boston and my current MD/PhD training at the University of California, Irvine. Through medical coursework and laboratory experience, I have developed a detailed understanding of human anatomy and its relevance to physiology and clinical practice. I have successfully guided undergraduate , pre-medical, and medical students through complex anatomical concepts by breaking them down into clear, accessible explanations that connect structure to function.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

I successfully navigated one of the most competitive application processes in higher education—admission to an MD/PhD (Medical Scientist Training Program)—which required personal statements that conveyed research motivation, clinical commitment, and a coherent professional narrative. As a current MD/PhD candidate at UC Irvine and the recipient of a national NIH F30 fellowship, I write and revise high-stakes application and grant narratives on a regular basis, and I bring that same editorial discipline to reviewing others' essays. I help writers sharpen structure, strengthen their central narrative, cut filler, and ensure each paragraph earns its place—whether for medical, graduate, professional, or undergraduate applications. My feedback is direct and specific: I identify what is and isn't working and explain why, so the final draft reads authentically as the writer's own voice.
Physiology

Physiology

I have a deep academic background in physiology from my undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, as well as through my current MD/PhD training at the University of California, Irvine. In both research and coursework, I have gained a strong grasp of how body systems function and interact, and I enjoy breaking down these complex processes into clear, step-by-step explanations. I have successfully tutored undergraduate, pre-medical, and medical students in physiology, helping them move from memorization to a true conceptual understanding that supports exam performance and long-term mastery.
