Dear Students and Parents:
I am Stephen, lifetime learner and master artist in drawing and painting; teacher and avid player of chess. My personal history includes undergraduate study, five years at Massachusetts College of Art in Boston where both parents graduated from. Further, I attended graduate work in design at Northeastern University while working days as a promotional designer for Hewlett-Packard. I was the first Marketing Director to the United States Marine Corps at the Marine Corps Base in Twenty-nine Palms California. I have been a fine and applied art teacher at Coachella Valley High School for eleven years, through my retirement this past June 13th, 2014. Along with teaching art; I held chess club during school lunch time and after school. A couple of years back I received my Masters Degree in Education Administration from California State University San Bernardino.
I really love Art and have facilitated the creative process with thousands of students. My students win a lot of contests in Art. I can show people how to draw, paint, sculpt and design. Everyone has untapped ability in Art; I can help bring it forward. An understanding of Art, is a gateway to a better understanding and awareness of yourself and the world you live in. Just as Art requires knowledge of the basic seven foundational elements; Line, Value, Shape, Space, Form, Color, and Texture; The ancient game of Chess involves equivalent set-up, moves and strategy that make an artistic project successful. A winning piece of Art and a winning game of chess have a lot in common. Creative thinking in both disciplines heighten personal awareness and make navigation through everyday lie experiences manageable, interesting and FUN.
The same, parallel thinking processes govern a student's ability to master reading and writing. Learning the strategic steps and thought patterns necessary to read, retain and report through the written word. Understanding of the step-by-step discipline that is associated age-appropriate reading and writi
