Hi, my name is Siv and I have worked in San Diego's public schools for 24 years teaching English and history. I graduated from San Diego State University and then returned to earn my Master's degree in English Language Arts/Literacy, as well as a Reading Specialist credential. I've taught Middle School and High School, both. I also have experience working as a Literacy Resource teacher for the district where I coached teachers, did demonstration lessons, worked with students in groups and individually in the classroom, and also provided professional development for principals and teachers across the district.
I love teaching and never get tired of seeing students engage and succeed in the classroom.
I have taught English in Middle School coupled with, U.S. History and Ancient Civilizations. At the High School level, I have taught English in grades 9-12, including American Literature, World Literature and British Literature. I've also taught U.S. History and World History. Additionally, I've also taught Public Speaking. Throughout my years teaching High School, I have offered before and after school tutoring, working on literacy skills, improving classroom grades, and test prep. I am currently teaching English and history in grades 10 and 11
I think that engagement and motivation are key to any student's learning. Students need to be actively engaged in order to learn, so I work hard to show them the relevancy of what they are learning and how that can be meaningful in their lives. I provide explicit instruction and then allow for guided and independent practice. I always provide feedback and leave student with things they can practice in order to improve. I think discussion is vital to learning and I always build in time to speak with/consult with students one on one or as a whole class. Every student works at their own pace, so I make sure to conference with students individually and maintain records of their progress and learning.
I love teaching and want to help students succeed. It is a pleasure helping
