Hi! My name is Zach, and I am a recent graduate in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from UC Berkeley and an incoming Machine Learning Engineer. In my experiences as a student I’ve found that the right instructor makes the difference between simply passing a class and truly enjoying the subject. As a tutor, my goal is to teach effectively while fostering a genuine interest in the material to keep the experience fun and approachable.

I have over three years of experience on Wyzant and have served as official course staff for programming and math at UC Berkeley. My expertise centers on Python, C++, and the full range of undergraduate mathematics, including Calculus, Linear Algebra, Statistics, Probability, Discrete Math, and Optimization. Additionally, I have extensive experience tutoring Physics, specifically Mechanics and Electricity & Magnetism, and I am always happy to assist students navigating these challenging courses.

Beyond university-level instruction, I spent two years as a Lead Instructor at Code Ninjas teaching programming to students aged 8–14. This experience taught me how to translate complex, abstract concepts into simple terms for any learning style. Whether I am working with a young beginner or a college student tackling advanced engineering coursework, I focus on keeping the session engaging and centered on the student's unique needs.

I know how demanding schoolwork can be, especially at the university level. My mission is to help you not just learn the material, but build the foundational skills and motivation necessary to excel in the future. Whatever your goals may be, I am here to help. Feel free to contact me with any questions!

C++

C++

As a now sophomore Computer Science student at Orange Coast College who is planning to transfer to a major four-year university, my institution has prioritized C++ in its programming curriculum to be in line with what is taught at UCI. As such I have taken two courses in C++ and one course in data structures and C++. This has led to my official certification for C++. I have also developed projects using the language in my own time such as class course managers and smaller terminal-based applications. In terms of teaching, as a STEM peer mentor at my community college, I have had the pleasure of tutoring peers and assisting them with these C++ courses for over a year now. Whether it's younger high school students looking to learn C++ or college students in the same courses I have studied, I am here to help!
Calculus

Calculus

Completed Calculus 1, 2, 3 and Introductory to Linear Algebra and Differential Equations. Scored an A in all courses and am currently pursuing a field in electrical engineering and computer science. Additionally tutored the calculus sequence for over a year now.
Computer Programming

Computer Programming

Experience in Java, C, C#, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, SQL, Python. Completion of Harvard's CS50x online course. One year and a half of teaching Introductory Computer Science Principles and Java at Code Ninjas as Lead Instructor.

Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I have scored an A in UC Berkeley's CS70: Discrete Mathematics and Probability Theory. This course is known for being a rigorous examination of discrete math skills and required me to work at the course subject for 10-15 hours a week. I have assisted my peers in the material, and I am planning to teach it in the near future.
Java

Java

Completed both AP Computer Science A and Java Programming 1. Primary experience of tutoring revolved around teaching and tutoring classmates and local students.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

I have taken two Linear Algebra courses focused on engineering applications especially regarding control theory. Topics I have tutored and have learned include proofs, vector spaces, standard value decomposition, least squares, principal component analysis, stability, and differential vector equations. I have also begun learning optimization methods so I am open to tutoring that as well!
Physics

Physics

As a student planning to transfer and study Computer Science and Electrical Engineering I have completed the sequence of three calculus based physics courses in Mechanics, Electricity/Magnetism, and Modern physics with thermodynamics. Throughout these courses I have earned a perfect GPA and have frequently tutored peers in Mechanics and E/M especially.

Java Tutoring

Before contacting Zach, I was struggling mightily to work through Java problems. His guidance and explanations while working through those problems helped me understand almost immediately. Talking through the steps of the problems with Zach gave me an all-around better understanding of what was/is needed to solve those problems. I cannot recommend Zach enough to anyone in need of guidance in learning and applying what you have learned in Java.
