MY MOTTO: TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAMWORK

I create the TEAMWORK with the PARENT
To make the DREAMWORK for the CHILD

I am a personable, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic tutor. I treat all my students like my own daughter or son. My goal is to ensure that each student reaches their full potential to secure a successful future. My prime focus is on "teaching the student" not just the coursework, which makes an immense impact on affirmative learning by building competence and soaring confidence, with motivation, focus, and problem solving skills. And, my individualized attention ensures that your child remains engaged which fosters an attentive and effective learning atmosphere of curiosity and creativity.

I have a Master's in Electrical Engineering and have been teaching math on a part time basis for over 25 plus years. I have provided private Math Tutoring to kids from Grades 2-11 (Math including Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II and Honors Geometry).

In 2001, I successfully passed the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) required by the state of California for all prospective teachers.

I have actively participated in teaching Math for the "NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND PROGRAM" in Placentia, Yorba Linda, Huntington Beach, Santa Ana and Newport - Costa Mesa School Districts (2nd Grade to 11th Grade).

I have also taught after-school interactive SAT Math programs at a private High School in Orange County to students from Connelly, Servite and Rosary High Schools. I have also taught Honors Geometry to High School students from Uni Hi School in Irvine, Troy High School in Fullerton and Fountain Valley High School.

I have also taught INTERMEDIATE AND COLLEGE ALGEBRA to students from Golden West City College, Orange Coast City College and Irvine City College in Orange County, California. I have also taught students with Special Needs in Orange County and have produced remarkable results. I have also taught Math courses at ITT Technical Institute.

I have also worked with Elementary, Middle School and High School Students being home-schooled to make learning a vibrant, engaging, educational, and joyful experience.

I use my heart for teaching to create a passion for learning. With pursuit for academic excellence, I like to focus on teaching the student, not just the coursework.

My teaching philosophy aspires to inspire the heart, educate the mind, and touch the spirit of young people for lives of learning, leadership and service. I use this philosophy towards enriching a student's performance. My mission is to help a student succeed academically and achieve the fullest potential in life. I have used that motto in teaching Math to students from Grades 2-11 including teaching after school SAT classes to high school students in Orange County, California.

I would be happy to furnish a recommendation letter from the school principal to a prospective student.

I encourage you to discover how a better understanding of math can change your child's attitude towards learning under my expert guidance.

Here is a testimonial about my work from a parent of my student:

"Outstanding Tutor!"
- Brandon from Costa Mesa, CA

"Meher did an outstanding job of tutoring my son in Algebra 2. Prior to beginning the tutoring session with my son, he took the time to know him and understand him as a person which helped establish a good relationship that was key to my son's receptivity to Meher's tutoring.

Additionally he was very patient with my son and used positive reinforcement in the learning. Lastly it was clear from my son's viewpoint, that Meher really has a great technical background in Math that allowed him to really help my son understand areas that were difficult and focus on those key learnings.

If you want your child to really grasp a subject in which Meher tutors, he will ensure your child learns and excels in the subject matter - a very dedicated and great tutor that I would highly recommend."

GRE,

GRE

The GRE Mathematics Test is a test of one's knowledge with proper understanding. In general, the questions are intended not only to test recall of information but also to assess test takers' understanding of fundamental concepts and the ability to apply those concepts in various situations. The following content descriptions may assist students in preparing for the test. The percents given are estimates; actual percents will vary somewhat from one edition of the test to another. CALCULUS — 50% Material learned in the usual sequence of elementary calculus courses — differential and integral calculus of one and of several variables — includes calculus-based applications and connections with coordinate geometry, trigonometry, differential equations and other branches of mathematics. ALGEBRA — 25% 1. Elementary algebra: basic algebraic techniques and manipulations acquired in high school and used throughout mathematics 2. Linear algebra: matrix algebra, systems of linear equations, vector spaces, linear transformations, characteristic polynomials and eigenvalues and eigenvectors 3. Abstract algebra and number theory: elementary topics from group theory, theory of rings and modules, field theory and number theory ADDITIONAL TOPICS — 25% 1. Introductory real analysis: sequences and series of numbers and functions, continuity, differentiability and integrability, and elementary topology of R and R to the power of n 2. Discrete mathematics: logic, set theory, combinatorics, graph theory and algorithms 3. Other topics: general topology, geometry, complex variables, probability and statistics, and numerical analysis In the past 25 years, I have helped numerous students to study, take and do well in the GRE Mathematics Test. This has given them an opportunity to feel a great sense of accomplishment as it opened up doors for them to study with pride in a graduate program at a university of their choice. I have also taught Geometry, Algebra and SAT to advanced Math students, as well as, helped middle school and high school students to achieve success in competancy-based remedial Math programs. I have also helped students successfully prepare for the American Mathematics Contest (AMC) - a competency-based exam designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem solving skills, as well as, to challenge students by offering problem solving experiences beyond those provided in most junior high school mathematics classes. Furthermore it has helped to promote excitement, enthusiasm and positive attitudes towards mathematics and to stimulate interest in continuing the study of mathematics beyond the minimum required for high school graduation.

Elementary Education

Elementary (K-6th),

Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary education plays a major role in preparing future citizens to live in a modern, industrialized, and global society. Elementary K-6th education prepares younger students for future schooling by teaching them the basics of subjects such as math, reading and writing. I have worked with parents to play a vital role in successfully preparing youngsters enrolled for elementary school education. My experience has shown that children in elementary school are malleable; and thus introducing character education is an essential ingredient to mold them into becoming responsible and productive citizens of the world. My foundational perspective and psychology of elementary education hinges on providing real-world application through field experiences and virtual simulations to students. I believe that the rapid changes in cognitive, social, and moral growth of an elementary school student makes the elementary education an ideal setting for shaping individual attitudes and behaviors. Thus, elementary education provides the best opportunity to set in place moral and ethical characteristics and understandings that have the potential to improve society. During the past 25+ years, I have provided exceptional Elementary K-6th Education to private students and for students in the "NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND PROGRAM" (NCLB) for the Placentia, Yorba Linda, Santa Ana, Newport-Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach School Districts in Orange County, California. I have also worked with Elementary, Middle School and High School Students being home-schooled to make learning a vibrant, engaging, educational, and joyful experience. Furthermore, I have worked very diligently with Autistic Kids as well as kids facing OCD/ADD/ADHD challenges from Grades 2-11. I have also helped elementary students with special needs and have produced remarkable results. I have also worked very closely with OCD/ADD/ADHD as well as Autistic kids for the Orange County Children’s Therapeutic ARTS Center. My mission is to develop in young children with active and creative minds a sense of educational understanding with a tinge of confidence to explore solutions coupled with the courage to believe in themselves that they can succeed. It has been a very rewarding experience witnessing this mission blossom into fruition for all my students. Nearly all of my students have achieved a better understanding of educational concepts with strategic increase in grades. It is because I am committed, accessible and caring. My goal is to ensure that each student reaches their full potential to secure a successful future. I have demonstrated that by helping kids facing OCD/ADD/ADHD as well as Autistic kids. In dealing with kids my experience has taught me that: "If you don't give attention, the child will get your attention." I have applied this philosophy specifically in dealing with kids facing attention related challenges and have made a remarkable difference in the lives of numerous kids. It is because I have this innate desire to reach out to them by giving them the attention they deserve. In short, our Elementary education is in an exciting period of reform. And, I want to play a vital role in building skills and knowledge necessary for effective citizenship in the twenty-first century. I hope that I can play that role in the life of your child.

Study Skills

Study Skills

Personalized instruction and consistent positive reinforcement are keys to educational success at all skill levels in math, reading, writing, study skills and other academic subjects. While education is the life-blood of civilization, I firmly believe that study skills, is an essential ingredient for procuring a productive education and creating a successful life. I have worked with parents to play a vital role in helping youngsters develop strong study skills. Four of the most critical study skills are: organization and time management, note taking, test taking and reading. As an educator, while helping students establish strong study skills, I have witnessed that students with great study skills, have an attitude set towards motivation, commitment, dedication, teamwork, and determination. These attributes have inspired them to go above and beyond the normal expectations at school and in life. Furthermore, study skills have taught my students the focused discipline needed to be happy and feel empowered in life. I believe that it is the quality and not the quantity of studying that makes the difference. This “quality of studying” is cultivated through the development of effective study skills. Understanding is not the same as learning, but good study skills foster a learning environment rooted in understanding. It further culminates the feeling of self-responsibility in a student by teaching them time management skills. As a result, they become more prone to making an optimum choice of staying on course to their desired outcomes in academics and in life. Furthermore, taking ownership and making wise choices in response to challenges make them feel worthy in life. Because those who accept responsibility for their lives, actively seek opportunities and solutions to challenges in academics. They also become better communicators and are more creative and sociable. I help boost a child’s school performance, by incorporating the following for proper organization: 1. Use a planning calendar to track daily, weekly and monthly assignments and responsibilities. 2. Break down large, complex tasks into manageable pieces. 3. Prioritize homework and other tasks when they get home from school, then complete the tasks in that order. 4. Encourage children to review their notes and even rewrite them if necessary to be sure they make sense. 5. As they review their notes, have children identify the most important points and highlight them. 6. Study over a period of days or weeks instead of cramming the night before. 7. Go into the test with the right equipment, whether that means a calculator, class notes, textbooks or simply a pencil. 8. Answer test questions they know first and then go on to the more challenging questions. 9. Use all of the clues available to them while reading, such as headlines, pictures, captions, charts, tables and graphs. 10. Read different types of writing, such as books of fiction and non-fiction, newspaper and magazine articles, letters and websites. I specialize in helping students of all ages to master learning skills and gain the confidence necessary to succeed in school and in life. Success evidences itself through self-confidence, enthusiasm for life and learning, progression, good grades, getting into a college of choice and having a career.

Math

ACT Math,

ACT Math

I have helped private high school students in Orange County prepare for the ACT Math test. The ACT Mathematics Test is a 60-question, 60-minute test designed to measure the mathematical skills students have typically acquired in courses taken by the end of 11th grade. Students have difficulty recalling and confidently applying all the Math concepts they have learned in the past 4-5 years. That requires a skillful teacher to help bridge all those Math concepts learned in the past 4-5 years. I help students to skillfully navigate and confidently build those skills to successfully prepare for the ACT Math test. I have also taught Geometry, Algebra and SAT to advanced Math students, as well as, helped middle school and high school students to achieve success in competency-based remedial Math programs.

In dealing with kids my experience has taught me that: "If you don't give attention, the child will get your attention." I have applied this philosophy specifically in dealing with kids facing attention related challenges and have made a remarkable difference in the lives of numerous kids. This has helped me to build a strong and trustworthy relationship with kids. Furthermore, the 7- key ingredients in my SPECIAL teaching approach embody the following: 1. Focusing on Shaping the WILL Without shaking the SPIRIT 2. Identifying, recognizing and understanding the dominant learning style of the child. This helps to improve the speed and quality of one’s learning. 3. Providing directions that are precise and clear and splitting them into smaller steps. 4. Minimizing surrounding noise and/or environmental clutter. 5. Handling any changes gradually. 6. Giving them a continuous dose of affirmative feedback as they show progress to further inspire them to excel. 7. Incorporating a hands-on interactive and collaborative study session. I have applied this philosophy specifically in dealing with kids facing attention related challenges and have made a remarkable difference in the lives of numerous kids. It is because I have this innate desire to reach out to them by giving them the attention they deserve.

Test Preparation

ACT Math,

ASVAB,

ASVAB

The U.S. Department of Defense developed the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) in 1968. The ASVAB measures an individual's developmental abilities and helps predict academic and occupational success in the military. Although the ASVAB has eight sections, your scores in four critical areas will determine whether you're qualified to enlist in the armed forces. Your scores in the other areas will determine how qualified you are for certain military occupational specialties and enlistment bonuses. Arithmetic Reasoning The second part of the ASVAB is Arithmetic Reasoning. This part consists of 30 questions that measure a student's ability to understand and solve mathematic word problems. Students are given 36 minutes to answer the questions. This is ONE OF FOUR critical sections that contribute to the armed forces score that determines whether students are eligible to enlist in the military. In the past 25 years, I have helped numerous students to prepare confidently and effectively for the Arithmetic Reasoning section of the ASVAB test. This has given them an opportunity to feel a great sense of accomplishment as it opened up doors for them to pursue a bona fide career in the armed forces with dignity and pride. CBEST,

CBEST

I have successfully passed the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) in 2001. The results were forwarded to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing by National Evaluation Systems, Inc. (NES). The exam is a four hour test required by the state of California for all prospective teachers. The purpose of the Math Section is to test your ability to interpret more than compute. Therefore you will seldom be asked to perform long division or add overly complicated fractions. You will be asked to interpret data from graphs and charts; identify very large or very small numbers; understand formulas; perform multiplication, division, addition and subtraction, and evaluate number patterns and relationships. Since 2001, I have helped private students to successfully prepare for the CBEST Math Section and have produced remarkable results. My hands-on interactive and collaborative teaching style make these lessons a fun-filled and productive learning experience for the student. I have also taught Geometry, Algebra and SAT to advanced Math students, as well as, helped middle-school and high-school students to achieve success in competancy-based remedial Math programs. SSAT

SSAT

Since academic programs and standards among elementary and pre-secondary schools differed so widely, it was difficult to compare academic ability based on grades and other school-specific performance measures. To solve this problem, the Secondary School Admission Test Board (SSATB) was formed, which developed the SSAT. The SSAT measures student ability. It is not an achievement test; therefore, it acts as a common denominator for schools in measuring a student’s academic capabilities, regardless of school record. When used for admission by independent schools, the test is only one piece of information that is considered. Schools also review the applicant’s school grades, extracurricular participation, teacher recommendations, essays and interview results. SSAT scores, however, do carry some weight in varying degrees among independent schools. Consequently, you should be as prepared to take the test as possible. Participation in this testing exercise will also provide you with valuable information regarding your educational strengths and weaknesses. SSAT test can begin the process of learning how to effectively sit for the ACT and SAT tests with age appropriate material. In the past 25 years, I have helped numerous students to study, prepare, and confidently take the Middle and Upper level SSAT Math Section (grades 5-11). This has given them an opportunity to feel a great sense of accomplishment and pride. In addition I have also helped elementary, middle school and High School students with special needs and have produced remarkable results. Very good at tapping into student potential

Meher helped my son prepare to re-take the SAT. On the first day, he took extra time to learn about my son's needs and evaluate his learning strengths and weaknesses so he could develop a strategy that works best for him. The focus of each lesson was not just on the math, but also on how to approach problems from different perspectives, to think outside the box, and to apply these lessons to life. Meher has a very positive attitude and inspired my son to do better. His approach is on teaching the test while teaching the material. He is very good at teaching the difference between knowing the material and knowing how to use the material in the test. My son enjoyed Meher's unique style of providing knowledge and understanding, and he appreciated the way that he would apply these lessons to preparing him for life. Meher's teaching style is very hands-on and interactive. He used his SAT Math Program titled SUPER SAT to help my son prepare effectively for the SAT Math Test. Meher taught him special time savings strategies for the test, as well as quick ways to double check his work to make sure he's choosing the best answer. Immediately after taking the SAT test, my son texted me "The test went great!" I am very happy with the change in my son - his new enthusiasm, engagement and confidence. I am excited to see his test results, and I expect that he will have a significant improvement in his scores due to the strategies that Meher taught him. Meher truly helped to promote excitement, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude in my son. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND Meher as a tutor who can inspire students and increase their math and problem solving skills.

The Best CBEST Tutor!

I am a school Athletic Director who was required to retake the CBEST, which caused some anxiety. I am a returning adult student of about 30 years and math has never been one of my strongest subjects. Meher was kind enough to understand my dilemma patiently and tried to show everything I needed to know for the CBEST Math test in a concise, comprehensive, and effective format. I really appreciated his proven techniques for overcoming test anxiety. It is because he focuses on teaching the test, not just the material. He believed in me more than I believed in me, which made a world of difference in my progress. He told me that “the most important factor in your success on the CBEST is you, and with proper affirmative planning you can approach this test efficiently and strategically.” After a proper initial assessment of my strengths and shortcomings, Meher created a one-on-one program designed to meet my exact needs. Problems that I did not how to start, I am now able to solve them with confidence and accuracy. There is nothing like having a lot of proper practice under your belt to make you feel confident when you go in to take the real exam. And Meher sincerely helped me to develop those basic skills needed to achieve success on this important exam. Meher also offers a fully updated, comprehensive review of all aspects tested on the official CBEST Math section. His valuable resource provides you with all the vital test preparation you need to achieve results and his prime focus is on how to apply knowledge with proper understanding. Furthermore, his guidance was streamlined and concept driven so I can get better results through more effective study time. He took the time to provide me with an overview of the CBEST along with a proper Diagnostic Test, as well as numerous Full-Length Practice Tests. He also offered creative test-taking strategies, explanations, and sample tests I needed to sail through the CBEST. I now firmly believe that if I carefully follow all the steps Meher taught me, I’ll be better prepared for the CBEST and go into the exam knowing how to conquer it. Meher has secured my highest recommendation for those seeking a convenient, powerful, and effective CBEST Math Tutor with the keys to understand how to succeed on the CBEST.

Very personable, patient, and understands key content.

Mr. A.'s helpful suggestions helped my son to understand the key principles involved with interpreting and solving logarithms. Our tutor was prepared with two white boards, markers and few simple props to explain what logarithms are and why they are used in math. Observing Meher's interaction with my son, I soon realized that he had a background in teaching. He was able to assess quickly my son's learning needs. His effective hands on learning strategies reinforce my son's learning needs. He presents the material in a variety of different ways with many examples. He knew the types of problems which would be presented on the exam, because Meher is also a math instructor. As a parent and teacher myself, I find it comforting to find a person who loves what they do ,and helps others to gain confidence in their ability to be a successful student. Mr. A. is a life saver. He came in at the last second ,and helped our son get caught up, who was behind in his studies. We would highly recommend him to anyone. He also rearranged his schedule to accommodate our son's needs which helped tremendously. Thank you Mr. A.!

An “A-ONE” EXPERT Elementary Math Tutor

I have had this distinctive privilege of having Meher tutor my 9-year old son for Elementary Math who scored 100% in his tests after Meher’s superb guidance. What is amazing about his teaching style is that: Meher believes that you are much more than a score. His tutoring sessions are tailored to meet the specific needs and learning style of my son. My son is so inspired that he beams up with excitement for his study sessions with him. It is because Meher provided valuable and meaningful information that helped my son unlock his full potential and taught him how to navigate the Math territory with an extra edge; and use this strategy effectively to his advantage. Meher believes that tutoring should not be a "one-size-fits-all" solution, a belief that my son was able to appreciate and respect. Furthermore, Meher bent over backwards to give that little “EXTRA” to my son, which made a “BIG” difference in his receptivity towards learning. His interactive and collaborative teaching philosophy encompasses an adaptive learning platform that identifies your strengths and shortcomings to create a personalized study plan based on your unique needs and timelines. Meher provided the pertinent tools my son needed to get good scores, including effective targeted practice, test taking strategies, full length practice tests and recommending additional valuable resources to complement his school work. He also sincerely ensured that my son focused his time and energy in learning those skills with the maximum "skill boosting" potential. On top of that Meher is able to keep my son focused for the entire 2-hour study session which I find to be absolutely remarkable because no other teacher has been able to do that for him to-date. Meher is a strategy-based expert engaging Elementary Math Tutor, whose knowledge, expertise and wisdom; I like to unconditionally and enthusiastically recommend to others.

Excellent tutor.

We contacted Meher for some one-on-one tutoring for ACT test prep only two weeks before the test. He fit my son into his busy schedule and has been working with him diligently to prep him for the test. He has motivated my son and keeps him interested in study sessions that last 2 hours daily. My son is excited for the sessions and hasn't complained once. Meher has an excellent grasp of mathematics and can teach the reasons behind the problems, not just plug and chug. I would recommend Meher and I have the utmost confidence that my son will do well on the test with the tutoring he's gotten from Meher. His sessions were customized to meet my son's unique needs, goals and learning style. In short, the ACT test may be standardized, but Meher's teaching style was truly personalized, which I really appreciated. I am very grateful to Meher for making time for daily tutoring sessions, even though he is very busy and for customizing a tutoring program to my son's unique needs. Meher is very easy to work with and understands young people and how to motivate them and keep them interested.

An extraordinary and exceptional tutor.

Understanding and learning Geometry was a trying experience for my daughter with her teachers as well as other tutors. But, after Meher starting tutoring my daughter in Geometry, for the first time she said "Mom, I get it now." I have never heard my daughter say that about ANY math class. Furthermore, due to her failing grades, I was not sure if my daughter would pass her semester finals. With Meher's positive, supportive and unique style of teaching, she passed her final with a good grade and comfortable level of understanding. This is a testimony to Meher's exceptional teaching abilities that I would like to fully endorse and whole-heartedly recommend to others. Mehers's professionalism with a flexible and affirmative attitude has made a world of difference in my daughter's ability to learn with enthusiasm and understanding. I am grateful to have such an extraordinary tutor for my daughter.
