I am a former undergraduate and graduate admissions officer with experience reading applications for the UC System (UCLA, UCSC, UCI) and selective liberal arts colleges like Pomona College. I am a former undergraduate and graduate admissions officer with experience reading applications for the UC System (UCLA, UCSC, UCI) and selective liberal arts colleges like Pomona College. I possess a wide geographic scope having worked with students throughout the US (primarily California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Texas) and China as a college counselor. In my 15 year career, the majority of my students have been admitted to Top 50 National Research Universities and Top 30 National Liberal Arts Colleges within the United States.

With over 25,000 colleges worldwide, the college admissions process is complex and then very competitive at some colleges. It can be overwhelming and students can get caught up in the frenzy of applying to college and not "applying themselves" to college. I look forward to helping you take ownership of your college search process while being your guide developing your resume, helping you craft compelling essays to showcase your personality, and preparing you for interviews. I welcome all college bound high school students, transfer students, and graduate students including law and medical school.

I even welcome professionals looking for the next step in their careers. The job search process mirrors the college search process as an exercise in presenting yourself. I have been an active recruiter helping individuals align their skills and goals with target positions and industries.

For those on an immediate deadline, I can provide offline revisions of writing materials (personal statements, statements of purpose, resumes, cover letters) including profile assessments and final application reviews.

Counseling is actually about relationship building so besides guidance, I enjoy trash talking about basketball, football and tennis and geeking out on video games and Marvel movies. A working partnership with me involves both high quality work and a sense of humor :-)

I am a former college counselor and current admissions officer. I have helped undergraduate students create resumes, develop their profiles via extracurriculars, and prepare for interviews. Similarly, for graduate and adult students, I have done interview prep and have evaluated their job experience in assessing their profiles. Admissions is a recruiting type position and I have an eye for helping students express their career accomplishments and tailor it to the position or program they are seeking.

Proofreading

I have been an admissions officer and college counselor for over 10 years. I have read nearly 10,000 essays in my career and have counseled many students through the process. Proofreading is more about building relationships with students so that I have a grasp of their voice and can help them articulate their thoughts clearly and effectively.

I am a former high school English teacher and college counselor and current admissions officer. Responsive and Productive Tutor

It was a pleasure having William review and provide feedback on my college application essays. He clearly understood the expectations for each prompt, while also empowering me to discover those insights myself. He has always been very responsive and productive in turning back revisions and feedback. He always share awesome stories of his past students, which were very inspiring. This clearly showcases William's extensive past experiences in working with students to improve their college applications. Moreover, William is supportive and flexible. I found William three days before I had to turn in the applications for three Ivy League schools, yet he still managed to work with me to meet the deadline without compromising the quality of my writing. As someone who often struggles with writer's block, especially when under pressure, I greatly appreciated William's offer of video conferencing sessions. These face-to-face conversations helped me to organize my thoughts and overcome writer's block. (Certainly, I would advise seeking support early on.) With William's guidance, I felt much more confident in my own writing! I wholeheartedly recommend William to anyone seeking assistance with college applications or related matters.

highly recommended

William helped navigate the college application process. He worked with me and my child to articulate passions and stories, highlighting strengths while addressing insecurities. He has experience in both undergraduate and graduate admissions, and his broad experience across different regions of the US and even internationally gives him a unique perspective on the varying challenges and opportunities students face. William is student-centered and tries to help students find the best fit for their individual needs and goals. He also leverages his knowledge of different college types, such as liberal arts colleges and UC schools. He has helped us strategically navigate this competitive college admissions landscape.

Excellent counselor with inside knowledge

Even though it's our first session with William for my 10th grader, we know we will be contacting him often throughout our college admissions process. His insight as an admissions officer is invaluable to us, and he answered all my daughter's questions perfectly. After a single session with William, we are absolutely convinced that he has the depth and breadth of experience, the right approach, the unique insight, and the communication skills necessary to make a student stand out and be remembered among the overcrowded sea of competitive applicants. We also appreciate his straightforward approach to what is expected of the student in this counseling process. We highly recommend contacting William if you’re looking for college counseling help.
