Hi, I'm glad you're considering me as a tutor. For the past 23 years, I've worked as a mathematics professor at a community college, teaching calculus, statistics, linear algebra, and precalculus to students at every stage — recent high school graduates, adults returning to school after years away, and everyone in between. I've taught online since 2002, so virtual sessions feel natural to me. Before that, as a college student myself, I spent 8 years tutoring over a hundred junior high, high school, and college students, both in person and online. I hold a master's degree in mathematics with an emphasis in education from California State University, Fullerton.
What I care about most is building real understanding, not just memorized steps. I focus on why a method works, since that's what lets a student handle a problem that looks slightly different from what they've practiced. That matters most in courses like calculus and linear algebra, where memorization falls apart the moment an exam requires actual thinking. I also pay close attention to the gaps that trip students up most, like shaky algebra resurfacing in calculus, or confusion over what a derivative or a p-value actually represents.
Beyond the classroom, I've worked in my college's tutoring lab and spent countless hours in one-on-one office hours. Combined with my earlier years of tutoring, that has given me a lot of practice figuring out exactly where a student's understanding breaks down and adjusting my explanation until it clicks. That includes foundational work in prealgebra, algebra, and trigonometry, as well as GED math prep for adults rebuilding their skills.
I genuinely enjoy meeting people wherever they're starting from. Whether you need to pass a class, prepare for an exam, or rebuild your confidence in math, I'd be glad to help.
